The Official 'Trade Brady' Debate Thread - Do Not Start Another One

The simple fact is that when we last saw Tom Brady he was at the top of his game and almost universally acclaimed as the best QB in the league. He was the best not because of his footwork (which were exceptional) not because of his arm (which was certainly better than average) but because of his poise and his decision-making.

Now unless the brain's decision-making center is in the left ACL, nothing that happened this year will change what made Brady great.

Tom Brady's value in a trade could not be lower at this point because every team interested in him will assume we are trading him because of concerns about Tom's leg. You don't trade when value is low.

Conversely Matt Cassel's value is high. It may never get higher.

I just don't see the logic in trading Brady and it's hard for me to take the opinions of those who do very seriously because they seem to exemplify the living in the now type of thinking that would have seen us never bother to keep Matt Cassel on the roster this year in the first place.

Your making assumptions on fans who feel Cassel will be a great QB for the Patriots. You assume that fans who like Cassel were the ones who wanted him booted in preseason. It wasn't too long ago where some fans wanted to bench Brady and fire BB. Did you want me to assume that those fans were the ones who want to keep Brady (tho, some of the reasons given "his feelings may get hurt" might apply).
Bottom line, when it comes to decisions in sports, I don't let sentiment dictate my choices, and that is why you could delete 60% of the anti-trade threads.
In addition, it isn't a slam dunk that Cassel can be traded. Are you saying Cassel's trade value is higher then Brady's?

Please don't trade Tom. I just got a #12 Jersey for Christmas and that would be really irritating.

It's a guarantee that Tom is staying. There would be anarchy in New England if he were to go. Seriously, if the NFL were heaven, Tom Brady would be God...strike that, he'd be the entire package...THE HOLY TRINITY!!

Number 12 will reign for ever and ever....hallayluah, hallayluah, hallayluah!!!

Your jersey is good for another 5-6 years bro!

Wonder if New England will go for a crippled god?

Looking at my Bledsoe jersey and wondering.....

I cant believe this. Im off this site for 4 days, i come back and what the top thread? this stupid one.

the combat zone of the football forum.

Still no replies on my theory that most who are espousing a possible trade for Brady are Fantasy Football guys??? I'd bet a LOT of money I'm right and the reason no one has responded is because I AM right.

Fantasy Football guys aren't TEAM fans, they are roster guys. They're more interested in trades and draft picks than they are just rooting for their team. They really don't understand the team concept and the personality of the team.

I am so psyched their little scenario's won't even get a sniff or reality. So REAL Patriots fans can snicker at them later!

I haven't replied because #1) there hasn't been anyone "espousing" a trade for Brady......what the hysterics on the board haven't grasped is that it's simply part of the discussion of all things Pats (which is why any "snickering" would be unfounded.)

But for the record, I completely don't understand the appeal of fantasy football. I know a lot of guys do it, many huge football fans. But it's not for me, and never will be. Just don't get it.

Yeah.....um.....maybe there's just a trace of fanboyism in the hysteria posts about this thread and Brady, eh? Yikes.

And just maybe there's a hint of idiocy in your posts as well.

Anyone who has watched Brady perform his magic since 2001 would be a fool not to have a "trace of fanboyism" in them. The best ever...

think about this. cassel can throw 3/4 as good as brady can and cassel can run better than brady. matt is alot tougher anyway, how many QB's do you know that run up the middle and get tackled like a running back

Of course not. Brady will stay until BB finds someone who he feels he can develop into a top notch replacement and because of the other QBs age and overall health as compared to Brady's will put the team in a better shape long term.

Of course BB isn't going to want to take a chance on a guy who he hasn't seen perform in an actual game, he is going to look for a guy who has proven him self by winning 9 or 10 games in a season, playing in a system similar to the Patriots.

I have no idea where Bill might find a guy like that. I can't think of anyone like that. Can you? Maybe KOC is that guy? Maybe it is some player not yet drafted. I wonder how often a guy like that comes along?

Thats not only way too logical, its also freakin' cold hearted and mean. We all know BB would never look at something for what it is....................

I like Brady. I really do. And next year he will be a better QB than Matt Cassel.

But even absent the fact we could get more in trade for Tom than Matt. Long term over the next 6-10 years Matt Cassel might be the better choice.

Plus Brady is worth way more in trade, than a Tag and trade Cassel.

Where do you get the notion that an injured Brady is worth "way more" than a healthy Cassel?

That's going against the keep Brady logic which has been posted. If a trade is considered, the other team is going to give a complete physical to determine the health of Brady. If he passes the physical the Pats would receive a higher compensation. No team is trading for Brady without a physical.

Well, Brady would have to pass a physical. But if can't do that, there is little point in not keeping Cassel now is there?

Brady's trade value hasn't been lower than it is now since, probably, 2002. Cassel's value has never been higher. The overwhelming likelihood is that trading Brady would not bring in enough "more" in return than trading Cassel would to justify moving the G.O.A.T..
