Not to mention, as Belichick has said numerous times, it's a lot harder for your ST to actually get into a rhythm if your LS is also playing TE or LB or whatever.
It think that was the plan all along but then the defense could slow the offense so they went to the air. This half with the defense settled down they feel comfortable running it.
