Correct. The last 4 games Brady has seen too much pressure. One can overlook Houston as they were blitzing almost every play, however, generally the pass protection has been sub par for 4 games. The heart of the Patriots and what everything revolves around is the Patriots ability to move the ball through the air. With the OL playing like it has been/teams dampening the heart of the Patriots, the Patriots will not be the same team fans expect to see (and making a run into the playoffs a much more unlikely scenario).

i think having gronk in there to block will open up the running game a lot and hopefully take the pressure off brady. the jags were just teeing off on brady today.

The fact that the OL has been shaky with Mankins and Connolly is a concern. Hopefully, its just rust. Those guys have missed time throughout the season. The OLine has to be strong if they are going to make it through the playoffs.

I think some of the credit goes to the Jags secondary. Brady was forced to hold the ball on several occaissions.

It would have helped if the OC would have commit to the run a little bit more in this one. JMHO.

If the Pats were a bad team they would have been waxed today. That was an emotionally draining game last week, as was the week before, and this one had the 5000 pound millstone of a 14.5 line hanging over it. Jax lost by 6 AT Houston in the middle of November, beat Tennessee and looked lack luster against the Bills and Dolphins...tell me, where is the motivation to get sky high as the season winds down in games with Buffalo and Miami?

They're out of it early and playing out the string but they ARE a pro franchise, with a pro coaching staff. If you can't get your team up at home in the final game of your season there, then all kinds of changes are needed. They didn't tank. They showed up, played hard and made it close. Great moral victory.They are at home and now it's Christmas.

The Patriots, being the human beings they are, are on the road two days before THE holiday of the year,and family, friends and good times put on the back burner to play THIS...a freakin' game that means practically nothing.....nothing that is unless you're a dyamed pinheaded whiny complainer...then it becomes the "WORST VICTORY OF THE SEASON!!!!" and definite proof "the Patriots are not any good! Definitely losing in the first round"...and of course, after today, the signature CL nutty wacker of the year "Spikes is a JAG!!".

Some day, TB will hang 'em up..and so will BB...and most likely the Pats will hit a rough patch where winning seasons come hard or not at all. I will STILL BE HERE enjoying the camaraderie with the real Patriot fans...the CL's will be long gone and hopefully all dead of fright.

It's always a fair point to speak of the other team doing its job well. Also, TFB isn't beyond making a mistake that leads to a sack or hurry. Further, the Patriots/TFB are trying to find their way with a group of receiving targets that has recently dwindled. With that said, the Jaguars had fifteen sacks coming into the game. Fifteen sacks after 14 games strongly suggests a defense that cannot pressure the quarterback even at an NFL average level (they can't do it purely by the rush and not by 'coverage' sacks). Yet the Patriots' OL made a 1.07 sack per game team look like they are very competent pass rushing team (at least what I saw). Considering the OL was a strength of this team only several weeks ago, this is one of the most concerning issues (if not the most) heading into the playoffs.

Hopefully you're right and it is just "rust" or guys still working their health up to an optimum level.
The OL play today, against 9ers and against the Phins a few weeks ago is going to make a loss against Denver or Houston or Balt too likely for comfort.

Ugly, but a win. Nothing else to say about the game itself.

My main concern is about Brady's arm and shoulder.

There will be some big time decisions and assessments for the brain trust (i.e., Bill Belichick) to make about next week: Play 'em or rest 'em? What are the chances of KC or Indy beating Denver or Houston?

In the past, Belichick has always kept his foot on the gas under circumstances like these, but I think Brady's health is probably going to be the key factor in how he approaches next week's game.

These are the decisions for which Belichick gets paid the big bucks.

what is it, his arm...or his shoulder..or both??...you know, he started the game 3 for 10...well before he took that hit that has everyone going bunker beserk...and he had trouble with his reads, holding the ball longer than normal. I saw the post game presser and he looked more disgusted than anything, at his effort.

One thing for sure, it's back to the injury report before every game here on out...so the soccer moms and the rest of the nutboy network will have to S...T..F...U the rest of the season with their complaints.

Why was Mularkey complaining about the refs not throwing flags against patriots shifting. They've done this many times and not get called on it since I don't think they actually call a signal like Schiano's bucaneers did against a team during a FG attempt. Does Mularkey have a point? or is it just sour grapes because his team fell for it even though they prepared for it a lot in practice.

Question about today's roster at the Jags

We had a bunch of backups playing today (sure as hell showed). Was it because of injuries to starters, resting the starters, or just 'let's try to shift some personnel around to see what happens' thing?

a little bit of these two posts, Its somewhat refreshing to see this team have to struggle a bit as it builds character but at the same time, this whole "poor execution" thing is becoming a little too common.

I'd prefer that they all be 59-0 blowouts, personally, but that's not going to happen.

Right now the key thing is conserving energy, resting personnel, avoiding injuries, and still winning and hopefully tuning up for the playoffs. Sloppy play obviously isn't good. But personally, I don't judge the pass defense very much when we are spread so thin by injuries that we don't have either Dennard or a healthy Talib outside at CB, have to move McCourty to CB, have to move Arrington outside, and have to start Chung. I expect to be shredded with that combination, and if that's what we have in the playoffs, I don't give us much chance. Look how just having Justin Smith out is affecting San Francisco tonight against Seattle - we've been juggling injuries all season. Spikes was out today. Chandler Jones missed most of 3 games and is just beginning to get his confidence back.

The offense obviously suffered from poor OL play. Mankins has been using duct tape to hold himself together all season, and Connolly and Vollmer haven't been far behind. The rushing attack and pass protection have both clearly fallen off.

It's pretty obvious that the Pats aren't going to go very far playing the way they did today. They know that. That wasn't the point. I'm hoping they can get through the next 2 weeks intact and hit their stride by January 13. We haven't seen this team at it's peak yet this season. The closest we've seen is the Houston game, and that team didn't have Gronk, didn't have Jones at full strength, and only had Talib for half the game. Whether we can get everyone healthy is a big question, but if we can survive long enough, I think we'll be a different team than the one we saw today.

The Jags played like a top 5 team and executed a good game plan today and we won when the pressure was on, enough said.

If this was the result of last weeks game people would be quite happy, think about it...
