He means Golden...I think

Yep. I was referring to Golden Tate.

I like Ben Tate too. With 3 RBs over 30 and Maroney in the last year of his deal, IMO the need is moderate w/ DL and OLB/pass rush very high.

The guy didn't like passing up on Odrick and Bryant (I didn't care much for Bryant personally, wanted Tate in the second round) and you called it the worst post ever. I was just wondering why considering that I knew for a fact that you were high on at least one of those guys.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. I was referring to this section of the post:

...the team is no better then it was yesterday and the 1st round is done.

Odrick or Bryant very may well have been quality picks, but crapping on McCourty for pretty much no reason just rubs me the wrong way.

It might have been the wrong pick in the first round, but I'd like to give the kid a chance.

Wow. Really hard to avoid name-calling here tonight. But Ian wouldn't like it, so I'll leave it alone. HAVING SAID THAT...would sacking up be the worst thing?

not really....this pick doesn't make much sense at all given the pats are supposedly set at starting CB with butler and bodden

But they're not, unless you fancy Wheatley and Springs.

Right now I am thinking the Pats move into the lower 30s and give up a 4th or 5th for that move and grab Golden Tate or Benn or maybe Kindle or Gresham....That would make it better

I don't think they sit at 44

The Bengals drafted Gresham.

look what set of players have gone, cb's

look who remain, pass rushers

its almost as though there is a league wide consensus as to where the first round value lay, incredible.

never mind where we lie tomorrow, that clausen and mccoy still remain and that saffold and brown do too

why didnt we get kindle? it was so cruel when ...... hang on he is still there.

Man...you Kiper Littles crack me up...all last season all I read every game day was "Wilhite saucks!!!".."horrible Wilhite!!!", "not AN nfl CORNER!!!!".."we need to draft corners!!!!!!"

NOW that the draft is here and we use ONE of our first four picks, the 28th, on a top rated corner, all you Bawkers can do is b!tch and moan "why did we grab a corner!!!!!!". It must be true...the latest generation of football fans are A.D.D. crippled immediate gratification junkies.

Before the draft started there was a CONSENSUS that this is the deepest draft in 20 years, and especially full of value from the mid 1st to the top of the 4th. We have THREE more picks in the 33-64 range and the 90th pick...out of a draft considered to be of relatively same quality all the way to the 100th slot.McCourty is one of the top three corners in this draft, all GONE now after the Jets pick, but the Squawking Kiper Littles, who bleated all last season about the terrible corners, NOW want to let a chance to take an elite CB go by the board because there's some LB that has tickled their fancy that they can't bear to watch him drafted. Insanity. The meat and value at the LB position is RIGHT HERE in the 2nd round. BB has made the right moves all night...try waiting until day two is over before jumping ship because they went out and got what you were crying about all last season. Or don't...become a Rats fan instead.

To everyone claiming McCourty is a special teamer and that's it: Congrats for letting Mel Kiper, Steve Young, and Tom Jackson form your opinion of him for you before you even see him play.

Dude will be a good CB in this league. Just so happens he can play ST too.

CB WAS a position of need. Did the pick suprise me? Sure did. But the way the draft was going, CB was a better value pick there.

Everyone talking out their asses and talkign about BB losing his mind just sound like a bunch of frontrunners who can't see things clearly. Either that or you're playing fantasy football with your mock drafts.

Its not about the player, its a need... We need pass rushers and playmakers... sorry but this is not going to help right away...

You are kidding right?
Have you been watching? Coverage has been one of if not our single biggest weakness for 5 years.
Do you not remember:
1) The 2005 season when our corners were as bad as any in the NFL?
2) The 2006 AFCC when we couldn't cover anyone in the second half?
3) The 2007 SB when the Giants made us cover one on one, and ran change of direction routes because we were to slow to cover?
4) The 2008 season when we STARTED Deltha ONeal?
5) Last season vs the Saints when our dbs looked like they were in the Arena League or any of the other games when we blew 2nd half leads because we couldn't cover?
My God, what have you been watching? If our coverage ability in the secondary was above average for the last 5 years we would have at least 2 if not 3 or 4 more rings.

Give him a chance? Are you nuts? This is New England, baby! He's a MADE OF GLASS BUST!!!!!

Still need to draft on the D-Line and OLB but I had CB as a pretty big need for three reasons.

1) Fins and Jets improved their respective passing games
2) Whilhite and Wheatley are at best marginal CBs
3) Good cover guys help the pass rush

While I agree on your first two points, great pass rush help teams win Super Bowls even with average CBs.

We would need Aso and Revis to help the pass rush we had last year.

Dear God, please let Dez Bryant be the next Charles Rogers or Mike Williams and NOT the next Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson...

I was hoping we'd go blocking tight end in the first round! :rocker:

I'm giving him the chance as well, only because I know that the Pats are usually strong in the draft to make up for it. Last year I wanted Oher in the first round only to see the Patriots completely move out of it. However, I liked all the 2nd round picks after that so, while I was disappointed in the first, I eventually lived with it because the 2nd round was so strong. I hope that's the case this year. As of right now, McCourty sounds like he has a potential for greatness one day. Regardless, we just skipped out on the position of highest priority which is DE (followed by OLB) and took another CB. I hope he sees significant playing time early on.

Nobodies crapping on him he might end up a great or even good corner. Bottom line for me is Im not sure he makes the team any better then it was before the 1st round. If he comes in and earns the spot opposite of Bodden then he could help the team immidiatley, but doubt he starts over Butler, Wilhite, or even Springs if he does return. Where as a player like Bryant could of been selected and wiped his backside with Aiken or Patten.

It's a shame the draft is over. A damn shame.

Nicely put.

not such a good pick considering the big holes on this team
you can have the best corners in the world but if you cant get pressure on THe QB it doesnt matter-- the recievers will get open

I just dont see this pick making a big difference on The PAts
hopefully they do better tomorrow otherwise its going to be a tough season
