Wait, you’re saying they racked up 28 sacks against HOU and IND in the two meetings this year? That’s crazy. Poor Brissett.

Im gunna do a real thread on Pats/Jags in a few but their legit imo. I expect a Pats win but this Jags team is a really good team with a bad QB. That said they try to put him spots he'll succeed in and they've been successful more than not.

Their in the afccg & are loaded with talent. Everyone should take them serious.

yes, yes, yes

There is a weird disconnect that I don't get between how people perceive the Jags D and O after yesterday. While I think that they are nowhere near a historic defense despite their imposing stats I guess we can all agree that the regular season still provided enough evidence that they are a very good unit.

Now, at the same time the regular season has also shown that Bortles is an inconsistent mess. But now suddenly we should throw this body of evidence out? This reminds me a bit of 2011 when Tebow had that one throw against the Steelers and people suddenly were scared that he figured it out.

So why should we disregard the entire season for Bortles because of an average game he played yesterday but then give their defense a pass because they had been better during the rest of the season ?

Finally, fans and the media have been *****ing about our defense a lot while consistently calling Brady the GOAT. Right?

So why do so many now get concerned about a matchup where our strength gets to face the opponents strength, while our defense faces a lighter load. Isnt this what people wanted all along? That the game ends up in the hands of Brady, Gronk and Cooks instead of KVN, Lee and Richards?

That would be 4 games

They are good on d but I wouldn’t say they are great. The pats d held Pitt to less points.

It will be up to Brady and Lewis at first. Got to make them believe in the run

That would be 4 games
Of course, since they’re divisional games. I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise. Still, 28 sacks against two teams is nuts.

You can do that when you are Sacksonville...... , way to rack of the sacks

Can't we have just one thread where we just heckle the f***ing Stilers instead of having all the Chicken Littles coming out of the f***ing woodwork and taking on the f***ing world?

There are plenty of other places to profess your deep dark fears of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and to try to finally heal the wounds you've suffered from Joe Flacco, Eli Manning and (oy) Mark Sanchez.

Just sayin'...
To be fair, he also gave them 14.
And the Stilers last TD was a garbage time score. JAX was in a prevent defense, giving up yards for time off the clock.

Big Ben is the opposite of Brady: he's getting soft as he gets older. The picks show poor preparation and poor focus. He can't move at all like he did even two seasons ago. When things are perfect he can still throw an amazing ball, but those moments are surrounded by a lot of meh. No "Let's Gooooo" out of old Ben, he's now more like Old Yeller. Did you see the way he shrugged his shoulders after the miss on 4 and 1? Ben wants no part of the fight, he wants the warm place by the fire.

He's got a big contract that is set up in a way that pretty much guarantees he's going to stick around and cash the checks till the team decides they've had enough. If he quits now he has to pay them back millions of dollars. Second annual retirement watch begins for Ben Roethlisberger says:
It would have been $18.6 million last year, it will be $12.4 million this year, assuming the Steelers would insist on recovering the money he already has been paid for future performance. (There’s no reason to think they wouldn’t.)

It's the opposite of what you want. The incentives should be to make more money for performing. Instead he says "If I quit I have to pay them $12.4M so I better keep playing even though my body is done and my heart isn't into it any more".

And the Stilers are too complacent to change a thing. They've put up with mediocre coaching from Tomlin for years now. They still think they're one or two players away from getting it right, but the thing they need the most is a new coach. As above, Tomlin is one of the worst in-game coaches, one of the worst disciplinarians, and one of the worst about focusing on the problems at hand instead of falling for the big game hype. He'll have a long off season to think about it. He really needs to change the way he does things, but I doubt he will.

.....they are a very goos unit....

Obviously fans are fearful of the "goos unit." The stepping and the flying in a V shape and the endless honking. It's disconcerting and definitely a Coughlin thing that BB has historically had difficulty dealing with.

Again, only 42 points... these people are insufferable.

Haley’s playcalling wasnt putrid then? What game did you watch. Especially his 4th down calls.

A month ago we didn’t CRUSH them we won by the slimmest margin imaginable.

The JAGs have strengths but their qb makes it impossible for them to come to New England and won an afccg. Impossible. At least Pittsburgh had a chance to win a shootout.
We won by the slimmest margin with them pulling out every stop they could and showing Brady the different coverage schemes that Butler spent the entire offseason working on just for him. Shall I also name the players that were out of that game for the Pats that would have been playing this weekend or do you get it? Shall I point out how Ben is a different QB away from Heinz or do you get it? You’re arguing to argue here. They were the inferior match up.

As for the Jags winning? You’re tossing in a straw man. Unless you can show me where I said that. Being the better match-up against NE’s offense =/= winning. Since you’re looking to have this debate, I’ll ask you the same three questions again and we can go from there...

1. They can rush the passer with just their front four: yes or no?

2. Their linebackers are smaller but can cover: yes or no?

3. They have two All-Pro outside corners: yes or no?

It's a warm weather team playing back to back road games; their stud rookie RB has an ankle injury; their QB is Blake Bortles, who was able to muster a measly 10 points of offense against the friggin Bills; they have no playoff experience.

I like this matchup just fine.
They have a good ground game and a good defense. The weather should be irrelevant when evaluating them as they just showed in Pittsburgh. Defensively, they carry the same blue print that has given Brady problems since 2007. Offensively is where they will lose this game... especially if Fournette is gimpy.

I'll be very disappoint (sic) if Brady can't do better than that next Sunday

You think you will????

The GOAT may be the most competitive man in any current sport. Sham stories aside, little needles like "let's see how SF exposed this coverage" will definitely come up in the film room this week to motivate young Mr Brady.

I’m talking about a matchup in a football game so of course it equals winning and losing. You are moving the goalposts.
It’s a great matchup for us because B.B. will eat bortles alive. Bortles is literally showing that he is afraid to make certain throws. B.B. will force him to. Regardless of what the overrated jag defense can do vs our offense this is a cakewalk because it will absolutely be more than bortles will do to the B.B. defense.

They're a good defense but they're not the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens. I don't think they're even anywhere near as good as the 2014 Seahawks.

The 49ers also had 3 takeaways, a defensive score and TD drives of 18 and 26.

Not at all. Teams could match up well in one aspect and still not win the game. We see that all the time. I also said earlier in the thread that I expect the Pats to win by at least 10. So no moving the goalposts here. You're doing your usual thing and constructing a straw man because you know you can't argue otherwise.

Yes. Offensively is where the Jags will lose this game. I've said as much already. I'm talking about the blueprint they carry defensively. The same blueprint the Giants carried in 2007 and 2011. The same blueprint that the Jets brought into the game in 2010. The same blueprint the Broncos had in 2015. The Falcons also used that same blueprint in the Super Bowl last year and lost. But you're still ignoring the questions I suspect purposefully. So I'll keep posting them until they're answered. Here you go...

1. They can rush the passer with just their front four: yes or no?

2. Their linebackers are smaller but can cover: yes or no?

3. They have two All-Pro outside corners: yes or no?

Heck yes to all 3.
It's a good defense, no question. I'm saying that if Fornette is gimpy then they will have to be the reincarnation of the 2000 Ravens to have a realistic chance.
