The Eye Test Thread.

Have to admit the numbers are what matters. But, earlier this season, there were several times 3rd & long situations were hard to stomach.

I think the turnover/new faces took a while to gel. Things seem to be rolling lately, which gives hope. No question the BAL & DEN games looked real good - both on scoresheet & "to the eye".

I actually tried to be the middle guy .. but it never quite works here.

To me statistic is the “blind eye test“. But it has its place, no doubt.

In any case, I guess the evolvement of this years D didn't go the way BB has envisioned. No doubt he would prefer to have Collins here being a great part of the unit. He took a huge risk and it looks like its paying off on many levels. Then again for him this was probably just a thing to do. His life-long team philosophy makes this decisions much easier for him then anybody else out there. Dependability before ability. Simple, somewhat old fashioned, yet effective and true every time.

Hopefully you have seen me post "my novice opinion" from time to time. It's because although I enjoy arguing or discussing a position I also know that I could be wrong. Just something for future reference.

The Gronk loss is significant.. they'd need another big time performance from the D

Losing him this year is much different than last year.

- O line healthy and much improved.
- Having Bennett helps offset his loss.
- Having three receivers 6'0 to 6'3.
- Having an effective running game

etc etc

Anyways it is a huge loss but I don't think it ruins a SB run but does make it tougher.

Yeah I don't think it ruins a SB run either because I don't think you're going to have to go through a defense like Denvers last year, but the offense isn't what it was pre Gronk injury. Bennett clearly not at that level

Awesome job, Tony! Hey, where do you get those stills? Those are fabulous.

I forgot to add what I use to take screenshots. I downloaded an app called "snipping tool" which allows you to take screenshots and draw a few crude notes if wanted.

Most wont agree, but I believe that Brady is a better QB when he spreads the ball around.

Thanks Rover. I subscribed to game pass and take screenshots. The reason I broke down and subscribed was so that I could watch the coaches film and see the whole defense/offense of each play. Good stuff.

They have Coaches' film on this? How much is a subscription?

74 bucks a year or season.

The "coaches film" shows you multiple angles of each play which includes a full teams shot. If you are into analyzing plays it is definitely worth the money.

Plus you can watch the film for any team during any game.

It's very addicting.

"but but but....it doesn't mean anything unless you put it into context!"

-Pats fans that are unable to simply enjoy the game

How is that possible? Haha I know what you mean.

But isn't that just a result of a defense getting better as they go?

Not really. It's a result of a big gamble in trading Collins and publicly benching Sheard and counting on two castoffs from other teams to take over at linebacker.

No other coach would have the confidence in his judgment, job security, smarts and brass balls to attempt that mid season, much less pull it off.

It also had the corollary effect of shaking up a lethargic defense and showing confidence in them.

There's no guarantee an undeperforming unit will turn it around, just because they have the talent, see "humble pie" Adalius Thomas

I suppose that I have high hopes for Floyd.

Most dont pan out, so I believe that the Pats are due.

If Floyd can hit on a few routes at key times he'll be worth it. Puts another big player on the field.

Why wouldn't they agree? Of course, he's better if he spreads it around and he has gronk.
