The Case to Sign QB Jacoby Brissett

Jacoby takes a lot of sacks... means he can't get the ball out or he can't make decisions quick enough... He's a back up, not a starter...

Pats need to take a run at Jameis Winston... they should have brought him in last year...
Sacks:

Andrew Luck 2017: 41
Jacoby Brissett 2018: 52

Clearly Andrew Luck is a backup QB at best too. Because he takes a lot of sacks. Amirite? Only 9 less than the guy who'd lead the league in planking the following season

Dude, there's a reason Andrew Luck is no longer in the league and it's because the former Colts GM, Ryan Grigson, is a freaking idiot who drastically undervalued the front line and completely failed to protect Luck. Sure, brissett gets sacked more than Luck anyway, but isn't that to be expected? Luck had an embarrassment of God given athletic talent to fall back on and Brissett really doesn't.

When they had a proper offensive line in front of them, Luck's sack rate dropped to 18 and Jacoby's to 27. Ironically, still a difference of 9.

Again, Jacoby is higher but that's to be expected.

Generally speaking getting sacked is only partly on the quarterback. The fact that both QBs cut their rate in half under Ballard puts the blame squarely where it really belongs, on the empty suit that preceded Ballard as Colts GM

All things aren't equal... Look the percentages per drop back... Luck was throwing the ball approximately 100 more times per season, and getting sacked less.

Brissette holds the ball too long. He takes sacks he doesn't have to because he is indecisive.

It wasnt the line, it was the offense coordinator who was running plays that were getting his quarterbacks killed. Did the line need an upgrade? Sure. But - It was surprising how much better they became at getting the ball out when Sirianni replaced Chudzinski which helped both reduce their sack rates.

JB is a back up. Want to win 6 games? Then he's your man.

Hear!, Hear! God post Cousin. Williams would help. Agree on the Brissett assessment.

Sean Payton is friendly with Bill. The Saints are in a massive CAP hell. Two players we could use are higher on their CAP page. Mentioned this before. How about a trade for Michael Thomas and Cam Jordan? The Saints need a CB desparately. Sending Gilmore (and a lower pick) would mitigate the added CAP costs coming our way. Now add your Leonard Williams pick up.

How about giving me a much cheaper Zach Ertz and a CAP cut move by Buffalo to let speed merchant John Brown go .........with above, we have weapons all of a sudden.

I still think that if we lose out on Mariota, BB looks at Kyle Allen (we tried for him before) or a Gardner Minshew who are both cheaper than a $25mm Jimmie G.

We might be out of the top QB hunt in the Draft at #15. We are battling Carolina at #8, Denver at #9 and San Fran at #12. So JAX, NYJ, ATL get the best three which leaves the fourth best (whomever that is) and Mac Jones and we are three behind unless we give up picks for a definite maybe Draftee. Maybe more realistic to take a top ten player who will be under Drafted because of the QB situation and consider Kyle Trask in the second round.
"Last season has changed all of that. In 2020, Trask took the SEC by storm, completing 301 passes, the second-most in the FBS to Alabama's Mac Jones who played in one extra game. In the end, Trask threw for 4,283 yards, 43 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. (BTW Look at the WR Jones had to compare).
His 68.9% completion percentage ranked No. 11 in the FBS.

According to Pro Football Focus, Trask earned a passing grade of 92.4, the seventh-best in the FBS. Among quarterbacks slated to go high in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones (95.8), Zach Wilson (95.4), Justin Fields (93.5) are the only ones to have scored higher. Consensus No. 1 overall pick, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence earned a grade of 91.2"

We have a better chance to get a top ten stud in the first #15 and take Trask at #46 in the second. Or trade donw to later in Round one take Trask:
Proposal>Swap #15 (1050 points) to good buddy Urban Meyer for his Jags 1st round pick #25 (720 points) plus his second round pick #45 (450 points) and we send him our Comp third rounder (#96?) which is about (110 points). Gives us three picks in the top 50. It works out on the Draft Value Chart.

I think we are looking at where they are at differently DW. I think your approach is tailored more to a team that is in contention right now, thus going for players like Thomas and Jordan. However, if they traded for Garrapolo then I would agree more with an approach that tries to go for it right now. As it stands right now they are more likely to end up with a QB like Mariota or Fitzpatrick, in which case I would hand on to their draft capital and draft a QB high, and add weapons in the draft and free agency.
