The Colts "wanted to run it more" because Jacoby Brisette can't throw the football... Its not because there was a scheme change, like you implied... There was a player change, and that player sucked ass

Bringing in Brisette would be the same effing thing as keeping Cam Newton. (Which I do not want)
Rivers can't throw the football either? The Colts were running a more balanced scheme.

Brissett is not the permanent answer but he's better than Cam, Stidham and Hoyer combined.

There is no permanent answer for QB this year. Not in the draft and not with a vet. All the available vets suck. The only ones worth a risk and they would take a very high price are Prescott and Watson and BB isn't going to spend the capital required.

The Pats aren't making the playoffs. Best they can do is invest in rebuilding the defense and getting a few skill players to be closer once the QBOTF becomes available.

If you're hoping for a complete turnaround this season, sorry but it ain't happening.

Rivers is better than Brisette. The colts offense scored more. Taylor played better than Mack. Rivers played better than Brissette. The simple fact of the matter was they dropped 200+ pass plays from the offense because Jacoby is not a good passer. Dont know how many times i need to say it... He actually had a lower completion percentage than Newton.

Brisette is not an answer, nor should he even be considered an option. He is not better or worse than Cam Newton or Brian Hoyer. They are all the same suck ass player. If you want to go that route, the Patriots would be better off running stidham out there next season. At least hes cheap

Will they make the playoffs? I dont know. But I do know that bringing in jacoby brissette guarantees they just spent another season treading water. If you cant see that, then i dunno what else to say to you...

Oh, I can see another season treading water, no doubt about it.

Who do you want at QB then, so team doesn't "tread water?"

Who do I want?

I want dak prescott, but thats a pipe dream... realistically Jimmy G or Jaemis Winston would be my 1 and 2... Winston is a free agent and could be gotten, unless the saints can clear some 90 million in cap space...

Stop gap until BB rebuilds the defense & acquires more talent, to then be a QB away from contending.

That's not happening this year. Anyone that thinks the Pats are making the playoffs this season betterget ready for major disappointment.
I am 100% not expecting a quick turnaround and a playoff run from this year. But if all we want is a stop gap who can't take us to the playoffs, then why don't we just sign Fitzpatrick or even Newton? They would come cheaper, which means more money to spend for other positions.

Fitz works too. I'm just not sure how he fits with the offense. Cam, idk. BB may lose the fans if he brings him back.

Who was the offensive coordinator the year Brissett was drafted?
The same OC we have now?

Third String But Playing on Special Teams
The Colts added Wentz, and Brissett is 28 years old and an unrestricted free agent now.

Here's the case:
- Brissett is only 28 years old, knows the Pats system and has won games here
- Brissett takes care of the ball. Career stats as a 60% passer, 31 TDs and 13 INTs is pretty good.
- Brissett played 15 games in 2019 and was only sacked 27 times. Hopefully gets the ball out faster now.
- Bill Parcells coached this kid down in Florida as he came up and said he has the same elite leadership qualities of a Tedy Bruschi, McGinest, Troy Brown type.

Stats link:

I also wouldn't be opposed to not overpaying for either JimmyG or Trubisky who both are decent in terms of TD/int ratio.

If this belongs in another thread please move.

Team Bill's Worst Nightmare
Remember in August 2017 when the Patriots thought they might trade Jimmy Garoppolo and could have used another backup, and then reports came in that they were likely to cut Jacoby Brissett, despite him being a 3rd round pick just one year before, and then they swapped him for a Colts bust who was also getting cut? It’s really cute that people gloss over the fact he was a monumental bust in New England, one who wasn’t even sufficient to be a backup.

If JimmyG is out of the picture, it could work with either Mariota, Brissett, Trubisky, or Cam and then we strengthen defense by a lot.

No thanks. Brissett is a scrub , he’s not a starting NFL quarterback.
Cousin, Good morning people, Had a nice moist chocolate croissant heated for a wake up breakfast, some OJ and coffee with a touch of hazelnut.
Brissett would be better than Stidham as our back up (not much) so price wise maybe not the ideal signing.

I will beat that drum once more, there has been "O' rookie QBs starting in the Super Bowl. You are NOT going to curry favor with any WR or TE to come to the Patriots in FA with Stidham as your starting QB.....i.e. The Patriots can't fart around this year while trying to land a QB if they want to add talent to those needed receiver positions.

The chance of us getting to the playoffs with a rookie QB is about 3,12%. Most of these about QB's had above average or excellent Teams that they were surrounded with. I would suspect what is on out roster as in "your record is what it is" is about 15th from the bottom of the NFL. If you are banking on a rookie, alot yourself a three year fair term to establish the viability of a pro bowl type, valuable starter or a back up....or out of the League.

I see Wilson's name up there and it intrigues me. Would I do 3 #1 picks? With our Draft history .........without a doubt. His CAP repercusions on the Seahawks? The actual Trade date listed would have to be June 2nd.

"The team doesn’t want to trade Wilson and never has, and it would also be really cost prohibitive to do so. Seattle would take a $39 million hit against its 2021 cap if he is dealt before June 1.

After June 1, that changes. The $39 million (which is what is remaining for Seattle to account for against its cap of bonus money Wilson has already been paid) could then be spread out over the last three years of his contract with Seattle. So, that would mean Seattle taking a $13 million cap hit for each of the 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons if Wilson were traded after June 1."

We have a shot if the Hawks will trade. We are one of the only Teams who can afford him. His supposed destinations of the Saints or Vegas are a non go because of CAP.The Boys? They have Zak and are trying the get him done. The Bears have just as bad as a receiving corp as we do (after FA) so it is the Jets and us if he will include us on his wish list

Thoughts on blockbuster with the Falcons. Ryan and Julio Jones for our 1st, Gilmore (they are desperate for secondary) and our 2nd in 2022? Just spitballin....Thoughts? Heard we called the Falcons. They are rebuilding.

No WR or TE is going to come to NE because they sign Brisett either, and that goes for pretty much any other QB they have a shot at bringing in this year. Sign Fitzpatrick, draft Jones or Lance if they can, sign a WR in free agency, and sign Leonard Williams. Free agents sign for the $$, not the QB, as we learned over and over and over when Brady was here.

Hear!, Hear! God post Cousin. Williams would help. Agree on the Brissett assessment.

Sean Payton is friendly with Bill. The Saints are in a massive CAP hell. Two players we could use are higher on their CAP page. Mentioned this before. How about a trade for Michael Thomas and Cam Jordan? The Saints need a CB desparately. Sending Gilmore (and a lower pick) would mitigate the added CAP costs coming our way. Now add your Leonard Williams pick up.

How about giving me a much cheaper Zach Ertz and a CAP cut move by Buffalo to let speed merchant John Brown go .........with above, we have weapons all of a sudden.

I still think that if we lose out on Mariota, BB looks at Kyle Allen (we tried for him before) or a Gardner Minshew who are both cheaper than a $25mm Jimmie G.

We might be out of the top QB hunt in the Draft at #15. We are battling Carolina at #8, Denver at #9 and San Fran at #12. So JAX, NYJ, ATL get the best three which leaves the fourth best (whomever that is) and Mac Jones and we are three behind unless we give up picks for a definite maybe Draftee. Maybe more realistic to take a top ten player who will be under Drafted because of the QB situation and consider Kyle Trask in the second round.
"Last season has changed all of that. In 2020, Trask took the SEC by storm, completing 301 passes, the second-most in the FBS to Alabama's Mac Jones who played in one extra game. In the end, Trask threw for 4,283 yards, 43 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. (BTW Look at the WR Jones had to compare).
His 68.9% completion percentage ranked No. 11 in the FBS.

According to Pro Football Focus, Trask earned a passing grade of 92.4, the seventh-best in the FBS. Among quarterbacks slated to go high in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones (95.8), Zach Wilson (95.4), Justin Fields (93.5) are the only ones to have scored higher. Consensus No. 1 overall pick, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence earned a grade of 91.2"

We have a better chance to get a top ten stud in the first #15 and take Trask at #46 in the second. Or trade donw to later in Round one take Trask:
Proposal>Swap #15 (1050 points) to good buddy Urban Meyer for his Jags 1st round pick #25 (720 points) plus his second round pick #45 (450 points) and we send him our Comp third rounder (#96?) which is about (110 points). Gives us three picks in the top 50. It works out on the Draft Value Chart.

Brissett is a fine backup. Would take him anyday over Stidham.

Not an NFL starting QB in 2021 imo.

Why didnt the Colts keep him.

That whole Dorsett/ Brissett trade was a 5hitshow.
Both sides got something they needed out of that trade. The Colts badly needed a QB who could at least use 2017 as on the job training. We needed a depth WR.

Neither of us got a piece that turned out to be spectacular but both got something they needed to get through the next few weeks (IIRC the Colts were starting Scott Tolzein and Edelman was suspended while Amendola was hurt)

Brissett turned out to be important to the Colts after Luck's unexpected retirement, he at least kept his team out of the Tank Bowl. Meanwhile Dorsett got some huge TDs here in New England, including 1 each in the 2018 divisional round and AFCCG. So while neither of them are mistaken for all stars, the trade was fair, and both teams were better for making the deal. Hardly a "****show."
