The 2020 Super Bowl pregame thread

That's what I said. It will have less of an impact on this game than you think.
I’m thinking Reid will have him in a three step drop and getting rid of the ball more quickly than usual in this one. If he drops 10+ yards back behind the LoS, KC is going to be a ton of negative plays. Three step drops, shorter route concepts, get the ball into their playmakers’ hands and let them try to operate in space.

Interesting stuff.

1. Mahomes has been the MVP by a wide margin this year and overcomes challenges much better than Rodgers. Hard to overstate how good he’s been.

2. I don’t know if that article helps or hurts the idea the Bucs pass rush will be a problem for Mahomes. We’ve heard a lot about how Mahomes isn’t so effected by it and the chart seems to echo that. But another way of looking at is, how do we really make that conclusion when in almost every game this year, the Chiefs offensive line has a positive pass blocking grade independent of Mahomes. The headline of the article itself kind of betrays that point.

I don’t think anyone here thinks Mahomes is going to be in the fetal position by the second quarter. Can they make KC change up their offense to those quicker, less explosive passes due to the pocket? That’s the main idea here.

I wish 538 had included the Chiefs offense overall performance and not just Mahomes.

He doesn't clarify if Mahomes gets rid of the ball fast against a normal pass rush or a blitz when he's successful. If Bucs can generate enough pressure w/o blitzing and forces Mahomes to quick passes, then that's a win for the Bucs. That will frustrate Mahomes into hopefully making mistakes trying to be a hero.

The video of the 16 almost INT by Mahomes shows him to take a lot of risks with questionable throws, trying to be a hero. He still seems a bit immature because of his enormous athletic ability, thinking he can make any play work.

I'll take Chiefs taking long drives over explosive plays all day long.

Based on this, I hope the Bucs play similar to how they did vs the Saints. Brees was trying to do that and the Bucs ate up the receivers and RBs as soon as they caught the ball. Drilling them all over the field. Especially White. That is the game plan for the short stuff but of course Mahomes can throw it deep too unlike Brees so the Bucs will have to have a combo plan of playing physical without letting Hill or Harmond behind them. The absolute key to me is getting physical with Kelce. The whole offense goes through him. Can't let him get free releases and just sit in the middle of the field. They need to play him the way the Pats did in 2018. He hates contact so the more they rough him up, the better.

I'm pretty sure that's how fans are. You come here and there's a lot of tearing down Mahomes. He's elevated by the weapons. They haven't beat anybody. I've seen him called a mongrel on this website more than once. They make fun of his voice, his girlfriend. Worry about his cap number. He is a product of Reid. Montana, Elway, Rodgers and Five Head suck. It's part of it.
This post gets the award for most strawmen ever.

So not only are most people picking the Chiefs to win, many now are saying it will be a blowout. I love it. Brady thrives as the underdog. That Bucs D has got to be foaming at the mouth right now.

Strawman means you are arguing. I'm not doing that. I was replying to someone that said tearing the other team down does not make your team better. I was pointing out that it is the nature of fans to tear down the opponent. That's what we do as fans.

I think one of the biggest things Reid has done to help his line is the jet sweep action with Hill and Hardman. They hand it off just enough that it has to be respected. Seems to create enough doubt that it creates a little time.

I didn’t think the offense was great against the saints. They really had a lot of trouble. You cannot start off slow offensively against this chiefs team. They need to hit on all cylinders offensively.

No. That is not what it is. A straw man fallacy occurs when someone takes another person's argument or point, distorts it or exaggerates it in some kind of extreme way, and then attacks the extreme distortion, as if that is really the claim the first person is making.

The Saints have a much better defense than the Chiefs. Both AB and Godwin should have monster games. Gronk too.

This super bowl will be the coup de grace of Bruce Arians. KC 45 TB 20

If there’s a blow out i see it the other way. People are really underestimating this bucs defense. We shall see.

Me too. I also think folks are underestimating their offense too. They are the only team with the fire power to stay with the Chiefs.

AB and Brate are Questionable. I'd be really surprised if AB doesn't play; please tell me Brate isn't out. I forgot that the NFL no longer uses the Probable designation.

Saw this on the Bucs site:

Odd stat; JPP has never lost a playoff game and his team is currently 7-0.

4-0 w/ the Giants in 2011
3-0 this year
