The 2013 Prospect Thread

18 new additions to the Senior Bowl roster, including OLs Kyle Long, Dave Quessenberry, Eric Fisher and Lane Johnson, TEs Michael Williams and Travis Kelce, DBs Phillip Thomas, DJ Swearinger, Sanders Commings and Jamar Taylor, DT Sylvester Williams, and OLB Chase Thomas:

Both Shariff Floyd and Matt Elam declared for the draft after the Sugar Bowl.

Dion Sims declares:

Report: Dion Sims to enter NFL Draft - The Only Colors

No news yet on William Gholston, though the article thinks he and LeVeon Bell will both declare. Gholston is inconsistent, but he and Joe Kruger are a couple of 6'7" 280# athletic guys who could be interesting values in the 3rd/4th round.

I haven't seen too much Ohio State film this season (I got plenty last offseason), but Reid Fragel looks like a monster

God curse the Senior Bowl for giving him an invite. He'll end up as a 4th round pick.

Better hope Bass doesn't get an invite. I still haven't gotten more film on him, but he made an incredible first impression.

I would like to point out Dion Jordan got 44 tackles and 5 sacks in 12 games this year. And those sacks came against Fresno State, Tennessee Tech, Washington State, and Arizona State, so mostly crappy teams at the very least not known for their O-line. The only FBS team on that list to crack the top 100 in terms of sacks allowed was Fresno State (81st). Doesn't seem like he made the leap forward to be the first round pick many make him out to be.

I'd like to point out he played cornerback more than he played DE, and played less and visibly worse his last three games due to injury.

What if you took his sack total over his nine healthy games and extrapolate it over a twelve game season, and then double it because he plays cornerback half the time? If you did that to put him on an even playing field with healthy and full time pass rushers then he would have led the league in sacks with 13.

I guess I can manipulate stats too, but that's why a very wise man once said "Stats are for losers."

I'll admit, I struggle to read Oregon uniform numbers, but I don't think I've ever seen him play corner. Plus, once again, he played his best against weak teams.

To be fair to him, he was injured towards the end of the season when they played USC and Stanford.

But, like you, I'm not his biggest fan.

Really? It's pretty common knowledge. It's one of the first things I learned about him.

11/06/12 - Week 10 Rewind: Oregon's Offense Frightening, But Defense Boasts Top 2013 Prospects: Explosive doesn't begin to describe Chip Kelly's offense but it might surprise fans to learn that the Oregon Ducks' top NFL prospects -- at least those eligible for the 2013 NFL draft -- line up on the defensive side of the ball. Hybrid pass rusher Dion Jordan has earned plenty of respect. The 6-5, 240 pound defensive end/outside linebacker/nickel cornerback currently ranks No. 21 on my Big Board and I'm certainly not alone in my appreciation for his unique combination of size and athleticism. With the Ducks' top defender sidelined early in the highly anticipated matchup against Southern Cal, however, Oregon had to turn to others on that side of the ball to slow down Matt Barkley, Marqise Lee, Robert Woods and the rest of the dynamic Trojans' offense. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

Dion Jordan | Oregon, DE : 2013 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

You really have to be careful when scouting Oregon. Their uniforms suck, they rotate players in and out, and move them around. I often have to wait until the play is finished to find the player, then go back and watch it over again. It's more time consuming, but what is the point of scouting at all if you're watching the wrong player? You could easily be watching Arik Armstead or Tony Washington.

Plus, once again, he played his best against weak teams.

Like he should. Easier competition = easier to get sacks. Should we write off Bjorn Werner's first 5 sacks too?

All I'm saying is if you're going to cherry pick one player's stats you have to cherry pick every player's stats.

I'm still a fan, but I no longer think he'll be a great fit here. I don't think he's stout enough to start a DE early and I'm not sure he'll ever be stout enough to move inside as a sub rusher. I figure he's 6'6"-6'7" 245. He would need to get up 275 at least.

I think he'd be an OLB in the 4-3. Would cover a lot of ground.

He is explosive, from the highlights I've seen. I know, that's highlights.

No big surprise, but CBS Sports says LeVeon Bell and William Gholston both declaring:

2013 NFL Draft: Spartans Gholston, Bell, Sims going pro - CBSSports

Unlike most, I don't entirely rule Gholston out as a late 3rd/4th value. The size and athleticism are there, and he may be a late maturing guy. There's risk, but there is potential reward. Not saying yea or nay, just worth looking into, along with Joe Kruger. 21 year old 6'7" 280# with speed have some upside.

For those of you in search of a LDE, Maliciah Goodman, who didn't have a great season, absolutely dominated at times against LSU in the bowl game. Check it out:

He's slow at the snap but I like those long arms.

I'm just starting to look at The Draft but so far my preference would be one of the Alabama interior OL (Warmack or Jones) in the first and either a CB or WR who can stretch the field in the 2nd. The Patriots interior OL did a good job this year but I would love to add either one of those players to this team.
