The 2013 Prospect Thread

1st rounders only.

2013 Prospects I love:

Montgomery
Star
Hankins
Teo
John Simon(not really a 1st rounder, love him though)
Lattimore
Reid(could definitely fall out of this list)
Bell

Guys I don't love:
Barkley
Bray
Any of the OT's
Keenan Allen
Kawann Short

Seen a lot of Reid this year, think his play has dropped off from last year. Maybe partly due to no Claiborne?

Also seems to make too many stupid plays going for the hit (like his penalty today)

Got some more film on Quinton Patton.

To start off, nfldraftscout lists him at 6'2. That's a lie. He's barely taller than the corners covering him. I'd say 6'0-6'1.

That site also says he runs a 4.56 40. That's also a lie. He's much, much faster than that. If I was told he ran a 4.43, I'd believe it. The only thing they got right is his bulk (195lbs), and he is skinny.

Overall, he really impressed me. Elite quickness and change of direction skills and a home run threat when he gets the ball in his hands. He has a very limited route tree and often breaks off the stem of his route too quickly. Jeremy Maclin with worse hands is his ceiling (maybe Roddy White but slower), but he really needs to improve his route running

I like him but I think Stedman Bailey and Markus Wheaton would be better fits for the Patriots.

Watching Mississippi State game film. Johnathan Banks is as good as advertised, and Corey Broomfield is crazy underrated. Moving to safety this year (I don't know why, because he was a pretty good corner), dominates against the run, crazy strength for size, instinctive and tough, fluid athlete. Simply consistently dominant against SEC competition.

Mackenzie,

Have you looked at any film of Dontae Johnson, David Amerson's teammate at CB at North Carolina St.? Johnson has similar size to Amerson at 6'3" 190#. He played FS last year and some nickel CB, then got moved to boundary CB, so he has a lot of diversity of experience like Tavon Wilson had. He's only a junior, but he's intriguing both as a safety and as a big CB. Would be interested in your thoughts.

I will take a look

Falling in love with Daniel McCullers. As muscular a frame as you will ever see from a guy 6'6, 377lbs. Apparently, he is 23% body fat at 377lbs. That's beyond off the charts. That breaks every scale. That seems impossible. But, if you look at him on film, it actually seems legit. The guy has a sweet build.

He did OK against the 'Bama OL yesterday without making any significant impact. Run defending NT only.

What about Texas DT Brandon Moore? Former Alabama recruit. He's "relatively" petit at 6'5" 335# but like McCullers has a muscullar frame with relatively low body fat, and has more explosiveness and disruptive ability than McCullers.

To put 23% into context, he does not qualify as an "obese" male. 23% body fat is roughly in the 60th percentile for males his age.

Haven't paid attention. Always injured, has character issues, would be a fool if he entered the draft. As of now, I know very little about him

I mean, at this point, he only has 11 career tackles. I can't tell you anything yet.

I'd take a look at him. He's flying under the radar, but has a lot of upside.

Moore was highly recruit by Saban to Alabama. He played same in 2010 and was thought likely to play a major role in 2011 before being suspended for an unspecified "violation of team rules" in March 2011 and subsequently transferring to East Mississippi Community College, which he led to a national JUCO championship last year. BB can presumably find out from Nick Saban how serious Moore's transgression, but to the best of my knowledge there were never any "character issues" before or since. He was re-united at Texas with his form DT coach at Alabama, Bo Davis, so whatever his transgression was at 'Bama didn't appear to burn that relationship. He does have a history of community service, FWIW.

As for the "always injured" part, Moore was dominant at the JUCO level last year, playing the entire season. He played well enough this year to earn a starting spot at DT for the Longhorns, and was athletic enough to be moved to the 3 tech instead of NT. He missed the Oklahoma St. game with a virus and was taken out of the Texas game late after a neck stinger, but hasn't had any major injuries this year. He's only had 12 tackles, but he's had 7 TFL and 2 sacks. He was Texas' best defensive player in the Oklahoma game before leaving late, totalling 5 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PD and 1 QB pressure.

I admit there's not a ton yet, but I think he's an under the radar kid with a lot of athletic ability and upside and a huge frame, who could be a good day 3 pickup if he comes out.

Dear Lord

When the unthinkable happens and Terrific Tom hangs up his boots, please can you have ensured that we have AJ McCarron ready to take his place.

Thanks Awfully

Brother Manx

Smartest and most accurate QB in CFB

I'm OK with that, as long as I never have to see that hideous tattoo.

Watching Alabama... C.J. Mosley... WOW

If it's the Tennessee game last weekend, then absolutely. Was superb and looks go have played himself in to first round consideration.

Fine by me. He'll push someone down to us. Good player, though.
