The 2013 Prospect Thread

You'r not the only one who have been looking at Ziggy, many has, all the freaks like Watt/JPP/Smith etc pops up later then the rest, simply because they'r raw.

First thing about Ziggy is the position, he play's mostly DT where DE as i see it would be the best fit and secondly hes age?? Been trying to find it and i simply can't, as you point out, is it like Margus Hunt who's 25, then he's simply not worty a top pick.

The only reason I would draft a project that high is if I feel there is a good reason that he hasn't already figured out the game. Pierre-Paul only played one year of FBS football. I had Jimmy Graham is a first round prospect because he only played one year of FBS football. I expect him to be raw. That's the problem with Jordan. He has no excuse for his terrible hand usage, and, even though his athleticism is above average relative to his size, it will not get the job done by itself in the NFL.

jordan has 2 years of experiance as a d end in fbs. he was recruited as a tight end and started playing d end in 2010. he spends a lot of time in coverage, its not like he is incapable. hes a very hard worker, but he does so mnay other things. my point is you said JPP only had 1 year. dion jordan has had 2? is 2 enough for you? its only 1 more than 1. Jordan, and as we know and as i already said. jordan is doing a lot more than jpp was asked by usf. jordan is all over the field, all 3 levels of the defense. he hasnt had a lot of time to develop as a pass rusher, but he knows how to use his length and atheleticism, give him time and he will develop into a great pass rusher and can be a 3 down player that terrorizes offenses

Oh, and I know you guys aren't desperate for a defensive tackle, but I like Kawann Short. Size, length, stamina, and terrific with his hand usage.

ive disagreed with you a few times. but this is one i think your dead on, what do you think of evertt dawkins, ik he is small, but skill set wise do you like him?

My issue with the idea of converting him to a DE is that he doesn’t seem nearly strong enough to take on a tackle, in the footage I watched he seems to be able to get around a tackle here and there but absolutely cannot go through him, I don’t see how another 20lbs will enable him to do that at the pro level.

I’d rather go with him as he is and use in a DB/LB capacity. Think about how much impact a TE like Gronk/Jimmy Graham can have in the passing game, I’d like to see Jordan as a guy who can cover those TEs and negate that impact.

Well he could be a DE on 1st and 2nd if he puts on the weight. ive seen chandler jones push people back. hes 260, and jordan should easily be able to get to 260. as for the DB/LB thing, this guy could be used as a huge weapon on passing downs, especially if he hits his potential as a pass rusher. you could do a lot of disguising with his ability in coverage, and lets not forget chandler jones isnt a scrub in coverage either. he isnt great, but he can drop back. all this versatility would help us disguise greatly. But yeah he could probably be great in that coverage role day 1

When ppl scouting Oregon and Dion Jordan, they might aswell watch Kyle Long #74 - Reserve left OT comeing back from a ankle injury. Brother of Chris Long ( DE Rams ) and son of NFL Hall of Fame, Howie Long of the Raiders.

6'7" 311, fantastic physical gifts, mean streak, and Hall of Fame bloodline? If he were an underclassman, we might be talking about him as a potential #1 overall pick; but unfortunately, he has already used up 3 years of eligibility and is now a senior, though he has petitioned the NCAA for another year.

Could end become a major sleeper - Oregon playing fast hurry up hurry as we do, so the stamina should be there aswell

See post #574 above. Kyle Long is one of my major OL sleepers for the 2013 draft. Howie calls him the best athlete in the family. Imagine what Scar could do with him.

Didn't notice that one - And your right, Scar with him at a 4-7 round pick :rocker:

Bucky Brooks on West Virginia WR Tavon Austin:

Teams searching for a Percy Harvin clone will love Austin. The 5-foot-9, 174-pound jitterbug is lightning in a bottle in the open field. Whether he was catching bubble screens on the perimeter or running slant routes over the middle, Austin was nearly impossible to contain when he touched the ball. He possesses rare stop-start quickness, and his ability to reach top speed in a hurry allows him to routinely outrun defenders to the corner of the end zone. He's also one of the most electrifying return men I've seen in recent memory. His combination of skills will certainly make this senior a coveted prospect as the 2013 NFL Draft nears.

Austin would make a great Deion Branch replacement, and a perfect fit for the fast paced Pats offense.

Austin could be a 1 to 2 round pick.. Love the guy bonus is he's return skills, but I really hope, BB won't use a pick on WR/TE's before 4 round.

Lloyd, Edelman, Salas, Aaron, Gronk, Balland, Fells is a good group for next year, plus all the Rb's. Who knows, mayby ww aswell.. Vereen getting a problem, since Demps comeing also.. Imagine him with the holes they make now.

In what range do you guys think Levine Toilolo will go if he declares this year?

I wonder if we could trade Ballard back to New York for a pick that would net Toilolo. I'd do that no questions asked.

I think I found a sleeper beast. I discovered this sleeper beast while scouting Stanford vs Arizona. Stanford’s QB is terrible BTW. Toilolo was often wide open and the QB couldn’t get it there. He caught 5 for 141 but probably should have had 6 more catches. My first time scouting Toilolo throughout a whole game, and I liked what I saw. He’s my #1 ranked TE right now. He’s far better than any of last years TEs. I need to see more, but I was very impressed. But I’m not here to talk about him!

The sleeper beast - ranked 394 at CBS - is Taimi Tutogi, the FB/TE for Arizona. He’s a 6’1” 260 pound wrecking ball with light feet, soft hands, and world class versatility. Not only is he a FB and TE, but he also played DL at Arizona! He plays about half the time, but the offense is much more productive when he’s in. They take him out to run the spread, but the QB isn’t good enough to be throwing it outside all the time.

The first offensive play vs Stanford he lined up as a TE, blocked, and then ran to the flats for a 6 yard reception. He tried to jump over the CB, and the CB got knocked out cold. He had another stand out play in the second quarter. Lined up a TE, ran a 15 yard seam and got blown up as he caught it and the ball came out. The hit knocked him out of the game, but the amazing part is he managed to re-catch the ball from the ground with three Cardinals around him, a big time NFL play. He’s a Special teamer too.

Look how good he looks in blue and red!

I'd take Austin in the 3rd, maybe end of the 2nd. Probably not earlier. If he goes earlier than that, so be it. His slight build may keep him down a bit. Maybe not.

A+ material with circumstances that have harmed his draft value, he's the perfect draft target.

He sounds intriguing, great find.

He is now my no 1 Patriots possible prospect in this draft. Well Ansah should be in that thinking too. Incredible length, strength and speed. The only thing likely to stop his meteoric rise is if he turns out to be older than the norm (the BYU thing).
NFL Draft Risers and Fallers - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

Every year there are a few players that are totally off the map who are able to find playing time as seniors and grab the attention of NFL scouts. BYU hybrid linebacker Ezekiel Ansah fits that description as a virtual unknown a few months ago, but is now shooting up draft boards as we find out more about the disruptive defender. Originally a track athlete at BYU, he decided to try football so he went to the Cougars' coaching staff in 2010 and worked his way onto the team. Ansah, who was born and raised in Ghana, entered the 2012 season with just 10 career tackles on his resume, but earned a starting job as a senior and hasn't disappointed. Against Utah State last Friday, he set career-bests with 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, pushing his season totals to 27 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and three pass break-ups. Listed at 6-6 and 270 pounds, Ansah is a freakish athlete with an outstanding blend of length, speed and natural power. He plays all over the front-seven for BYU, lining up with his hand in the dirt at defensive end or standing up at linebacker and dropping into coverage. Ansah has a flexible, fluid body type and is an effortless mover, exploding in any direction and chasing down the ballcarrier. He is obviously very raw having so little experience playing the sport, but already he has showed improved recognition skills and hand use. Ansah is just scratching the surface on what he can do and, like Jason Pierre Paul a few years back, NFL scouts are wondering just how high his ceiling can be. Don't be surprised if Ansah continues to produce, tests off the charts in pre-draft work outs and ends up as a top-50 draft pick.

The prospect catching my eye the most as a potential Branch replacement is DeAndre Hopkins of Clemson. If he declares we'll probably need to use a first rounder on him which I'd rather not do, but I'd use a second rounder on him without hesitation. Tavon Austin has fumble issues I believe, the best WR on that team is Stedman Bailey and I'd be thrilled if we got Bailey or Hopkins in the draft. Nos 1 and 2 0n my WR list.

I was going to write another post about a prospect I liked only to discover that he too is a junior. Just about every prospect I've identified as liking seems to be a junior. Very frustrating. Looks like I'm going to have a looonnng binky list next year. Should be a good year for me.

Anyways, the prospect was in response to Merrills Arizona FB find and it was Trey Burton out of Florida - a versatile guy in the Belichick mould.

I have plenty of seniors that I like, for all 3 days of the draft, from potential top 10 picks to UDFAs. Guys like DT Star Lotulelei, DT Jesse Williams, DT John Jenkins, DT Kawann Short, DE Tank Carradine, DE Margus Hunt, DE Devin Taylor, DE Dion Jordan, WR Tavon Austin, OL Barrett Jones, OG Johnathan Cooper, PT Brandon Williams, OT Kyle Long, OT Luke Marquardt, TE Michael Williams, just to name a few. Lots more.

I'd like to put out a two year early binky alert on Vinnie Sunseri.

Burton runs the wildcat right? Maybe the Jets will go after him.
