Content Post The 2012 season: the Jets [Mod Edit: STILL] suck

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

This post might be the most insane one on the entire thread:

This is, IMO, absolutely the deepest team the Jets have ever had. I'm with Slik on this. This Jet team is angry and talented. The Patriots are a 1-man team. This is not the Matt Cassel led group that could actually play defense. If Brady gets hurt, they will be laughably bad a la the Manningless Colts. The Jets are deep enough to survive an injury at any position. I can't remember ever thinking that.

I am still fascinated by why so many Jets fans think the Jets' defense is so stacked, possibly one of the best ever for the Jets. Despite being statistically a top defense last year, they were closer to average to above average. I went through their starters and I am missing the playmakers outside of the select few.

Here are what I think are their projected starters (I will use the 3-4 even though they will be using a 4 man front a lot more this year):

DE: Coples - An unproven rookie. So far in camp he has been unremarkable.
NT: Pouha - A good NT, but not a stud
DE: Wilkerson - Had a good rookie year, but Jets fans are already expecting him to be a stud. As we found out last year with McCourty, players can take a big step back in year two of their careers. Even if he doesn't, it doesn't mean he will turn into a stud no matter what Ryan says.
OLB: Pace - Hasn't been anything more than average since he was busted for PEDs
ILB: Scott - Would have been cut if the Jets could have taken the cap hit. Overall, he was an overrated acquisition. Now Jets fans think he will be renewed because he lost weight.
ILB: Harris - A stud when on, but can go long stretches when he isn't on
OLB - Maybin - It will likely be Thomas because Maybin is a pass rush specialist, but Jets fans are salivating over him right now so I will review him. His sack total last year was deceptive because at least half his sacks were coverage sacks where he was taken out of the play initially. His strong camp thus far could be because he is going against Wayne Hunter.
CB: Revis - One of the best players in football. Period.
S: Bell - Looked to hit the age wall last year. Wonder if he has much left.
S: Landry - A stud against the run, but not so good in coverage. Missed about half the season in each of the last two years.
CB: Cromartie - Feast or famine. Can shut down taller straight line runners, but struggles against route runners.

How is this group stacked? Only Revis and maybe Harris would definitely start on most teams in the NFL. They could be stacked if everything goes their way, but they could be just above average if it doesn't.

I agree that the Jets can survive losing any player. They are an 8-8 or so team no matter who they lose.

Cromartie's a starter on most teams.

I heard Derrick Brooks on Sirius NFL radio today and he said Cromartie was a genius (probably the only time in his life that someone thought Cromartie was a genius) by saying that he would be the second best WR is perfect motivator to get his teammates to prove him wrong.

I argue though that Cromartie isn't bright enough to think about motivating his teammates this way and just was speaking his mind.

Add this to the day when both QBs went 1fer, and you've got some real excellence happening there.

If you take away the two non-contact practices, Sanchez has been as bad or worse than he has ever been in practice. I kinda give Tebow a pass because his strength is improvisation with his legs and you don't display that in 7 on 7 or 11 on 11 drills.

You guys don't get it, he's just getting used to not having Schottenheimer there holding him back. Once Sparano works his magic it's lights out NFL.

Does anyone else like the fact we're being overlooked this year? - Jets Insider.com Forums

What's being overlooked, and not noticed is how focused the team has been this offseason. That's evident from Rex learning some humility (some......), the team appears to be evolving defensively (not running the same defense it has the last few years - which makes it more difficult now to plan against), the offense is new (as the playcalling will also be new, the team reported to OTAs and training camp in TREMENDOUS physical shape. You can tell Sanchez has bulked up, the linebackers have lost weight except for Maybin, who has put it on. Holmes' attitude is improved. There are many reasons to think the team grew up a little bit this past year.

So because Sanchez got bigger he will be better and because the linebackers got smaller they will be better :bricks:

TREMENDOUS physical shape

That's unique to the Jets don't you know, the other 31 teams are just average joes, the Jets are super-human in comparison

Not a good day for QBs: Sanchez goes 7-for-19, 1 INT, 1 dropped INT. Tebow goes 2-for-4, with 1 INT (fade route in end zone). #Jets

LOL.
