Kida surprised because of his age. He is a very good TE, but he is also 31 and will be 32 in early December. My guess is he won't see the second year of his extension, but hopefully he won't hit the age wall next year.

It does something for him insofar as it lets his agent report a higher guaranteed figure in the press release, even though in reality it was money he was effectively guaranteed anyway.

Looked at another way, it would be more like a 1 year extension for $7M guaranteed with some sweeteners on top, and then an option year at the end. The posts mention finishing his career in NE so he may feel he is close to retirement.

In any case, we will know soon enough when the details come out.

I said that's the reason why you'd guarantee the salary in this instance, not the reason he signed the entire contract. I don't know where you're getting that. Yes, such a deal would be a hometown discount.

Again we will have to wait to see when the details come out. I could absolutely be wrong, but if all of the guarantees are NEW money only in the new years and nothing in 2026, on top of his 2026 existing salary, then that seems a bit rich to me. We will find out.

Honestly... less than he could have gotten by a lot if he played 1 more year here and produced... which i thought he would do. He wanted to stay and not uproot things to finish out his career. Took a minor pay cut to do it. He probably left 4-6M on the table if he instead decided to test free agency. But i understand him not doing that.

Why would he sign for far below his market value?
The only answer I am getting is because they faked it up to guarantee his 2026 salary which is 99% guaranteed already in order to be able to make an announcement that he got more than he did. I do not understand why that would matter to him.
