NEW: A year after using two draft picks on tight ends (including one expected to be a highly-skilled blocker), Dolphins sign veteran tight end Allen: miamiherald.com/sports/spt-col…
I’d take it a step further and say that a very solid blocking TE in the run/passing game who can’t catch has comparable value to a very solid fullback. James Develin has a 1.6m cap charge this year. I’m guessing the Pats were offering Allen 2m.Like what? $3.5m per is generous for a 260lb OT

If Allen can actually catch for the LOLphins he might be worth the 3.5m, but I’m skeptical.

It actually wouldn't surprise much if he reverted at least a little toward his Indy #s. I'll say 16.Over/Under on catches next year...

A good signing for them IMO - they need some veteran presence in key positions.
I'm not sure he's even worth $3.5 million per but an overpay sometimes is needed.
I think Hicks will be cut next year.Id guess Pats offer was in the ballpark (technically a restructure of remaining year over 2 years) but like Hicks Allen went for a chance to play more & be more involved as receiver..

The Allen departure to Miami doesn’t move the needle at all. He’s an above average blocker and solid professional who Brady simply didn’t trust to catch any pass thrown to him.
