TE Dwayne Allen released

He simply didn't make an impact in New England. Our fullback was a better player so I'm not worried about losing Allen. We should still address TE in free agency or draft though because who knows if Gronk will even return.

Waiting on the specific details before passing judgement....

Like what? $3.5m per is generous for a 260lb OT
I’d take it a step further and say that a very solid blocking TE in the run/passing game who can’t catch has comparable value to a very solid fullback. James Develin has a 1.6m cap charge this year. I’m guessing the Pats were offering Allen 2m.

If Allen can actually catch for the LOLphins he might be worth the 3.5m, but I’m skeptical.

He won't.

good for him... 3.5 is a solid number... hope he does well when hes playing nfc teams and the jetes

Id guess Pats offer was in the ballpark (technically a restructure of remaining year over 2 years) but like Hicks Allen went for a chance to play more & be more involved as receiver..

A good signing for them IMO - they need some veteran presence in key positions.
I'm not sure he's even worth $3.5 million per but an overpay sometimes is needed.

This reminds me of Amendola last year. Similar overpay to get some character guys in to change culture. Hope for Flores that this goes better but from our POV whatever..

I think Hicks will be cut next year.

High character / High effort player. Will help Flores win over the locker room..set an example for younger players.

He didn't pan out as a receiver here and that's too bad..he was still a solid/valuable contributor here. Above average blocking. He played a big role in the shift of our offense from pass happy to run heavy.

Good signing for the phins.

The Allen departure to Miami doesn’t move the needle at all. He’s an above average blocker and solid professional who Brady simply didn’t trust to catch any pass thrown to him.

If he was above average then I would be willing to bet 90% of the other te’s flat out suck at blocking.
