Price is a lock (in my irrelevant view).

It's Branch vs. Tate. Short-term reliability vs. long-term potential, albeit entirely different roles. However I think Ocho has filled most of Branch's roles assuming we stick with predominantly 2 TE sets. Price, Edelman, and Hernandez can be the 3rd, 4th, and 5th WRs as necessary. Adios Branch, again.

Say whaa?

I really think the poll should now be Tate and Elderman.
Price at the moment, with the potential that he has demonstrated and just based on BB's praise of him for his off season work, looks like a lock.
Slatter too valuable elsewhere, Tate..... I like the kid, but...
I just wish Tate also had a chance to showcase his progress. I have braced myself for a cut that I know will not go well with me. It is coming folks.

This poll is going to be so lopsided. Tate was on the hype train last year, Price is on it now.

This poll could have been made 3 months ago and it would still be decidedly in Price's favor. He's an unknown, but that's preferable to Tate, at the moment.

Branch is way better than Welker in 2 TE sets. Branch to the left, Ocho to the right. Welker off the field.

You all know, of course, that with such hugs amount of fan support for Price that BB will keep Tate instead.........

I doubt this, though I know you are joking. I think the coaching staff just know Tate has not got it. I mean for Mr. diplomatic Troy Brown to say on WEEI that he does not think Tate will ever do well in offense should tell anyone that probably the coaches too have come to a realization.

All this talk about "this is Tate's last chance" is silly... the kid was coming off a knee injury and has room to grow. First of all, he has great speed and he'll rarely be brought down from behind like Price was last night.

By no means is he a polished WR, but he will stretch the field unlike the rest of the receivers. A little improvement will go a long way with Tate.

May the best WR win!

Tate might fetch a 5th rounder in a trade. Can't see BB cutting him just yet. Properly showcased, who knows....

Eh, not really. It was discussed quite a bit last year when he was drafted and from there on out.

i JOINED (caps) immediately before this past draft. I must have missed the TP thread when I was unregistered user

Tate has never looked as good as Price did yesterday. We can argue until we're all blue in the face about pre-season game 1 and the quality of opoosition. The reality is Tate has had the opportunity to do what Price did yesterday and he's never looked as sharp and crisp as a receiver at any time in his short NFL career.

after watching Bam Childress and shawn Crable look amazing in pre-season and pretty much not make the team or any outher NFL team i learned not to get all worked up over pre-season games, BB lets the guys he wants to see more from play longer so what that said i think BB still has Tate ranked higher right now

I like Tate, I was pretty high on him when we got him. Had he not been injured in his senior year he would of probably been a late 1st early 2nd rd pick. Comes to our team and sits out a year to recover and gets his playbook. Comes into camp looking pretty good, decent grasp of the play book, good return guy. Contributed a handful of plays in the receiving game with a couple of big drops that were sure TD's. Not a bad second-rookie season. He's now technically in 3rd year so decisions most be made. He's got a knee reconstruction on his resume and a contract coming up in a couple of years.

In comes Taylor Price. Physically gifted 3rd rounder via Carolina.....

Pretty sure the draft pick used to get Price was from our trade with Dallas, where we traded down and we got a 3rd rd + a 1st round pick (DMC)

I don't think this is really answerable after the first preseason game of the season, especially when only one of the two played.

You're right but, hey, it's a message board. Give your opinion and don't sweat the replies.

Branch isnt going anywhere this season.

I'm probably wrong on this one, and certainly in a small minority opinion. I like Branch and would hate to see him go, but I just wasn't that impressed with him last year and reading the tea leaves ofter the Ocho trade I wonder if the young guys have more long-term value.

I respectfully disagree with this. Welker and Moss/Branch made up the good majority of 2 WR sets last year. I think that Ocho would replace Branch in these sets if he beats him out (big if), which is what made me start wondering about Branch's role. Perhaps it'll be more a mix of the three though...

Here are the yards for the significant receivers (those with over 100 receiving yards on the season). Welker's were in 15 games, Branch's in 11.

Nice, love the pie chart! okay, point well taken!

Assuming you could only have one.

If they have to choose one, it will be the one who runs better routes and has most earned Brady's trust.

Come to think of it, neither caught even a single pass from Brady last night.

This is just a case where you have to go with the eyeball test - not something where you can go on one preseason game stats. That's not fair. But within the eyeball test, it's fairly clear to ascertain that Price just looks far more natural on all levels. All Tate seems to have is strong straight line speed, but very few of the instincts in what makes a good receiver - hands, eyes, body control, route running. He just doesn't look comfortable, looks almost awkward at times. He plays as a small target - doesn't get separation or attack the football in the air. Price on the other hand, just seems to have some of those natural traits - with a little bit of a mean streak that you like. Whereas Tate looks timid. I just don't think you can teach instincts - would be surprised if BT shook out of this one. With the new kickoff rules, very replaceable.

Why is this even a question ?

Taylor Price showed everyone what he brings to the table. We've seen what Tate brings and it's not even remotely close to the talent, YAC, physical ability and play-making ability that we witnessed last night from one hungry football player in Taylor Price.

Tate will struggle to make this roster.

BTW where has Tate been? Doesn't sound like he put in the kind of off-season training and preparation like Taylor Price did over the past 7 months.
