Stafford on the trading block [update: traded to Rams]

I expect day two picks for Stafford as well. He's not worth a 1st. As for Jimmy G, nobody's trading for him/salary and he will be released as soon as the 49ers get their new QB. 9ers save $23M by releasing him.

Throw in a 6th rounder for Jimmy. Or anything close to 199, just for the heck of it.

Brady probably voted for Trump and flaunted covid protocol in florida.

I don't really care about players political views of they can play. Let alone their wives views. I mean half people here still are upset we cut antonio brown and he possibly raped a woman
You don't really care, yet your sentence immediately preceding that claim says otherwise.

And AB didn't rape a woman, so...

Don't tell his wife this news...If she thinks Michigan is a dictatorship (and it is), wait until she gets a look at the people's paradise of Any Twosome Newsome...
It's brutal out here in California right now.

Why when you have to take on that salary? Just let them cut him and bring him in. He’s not the answer anyway, but hopefully he can stay healthy long enough (LOL) to keep the ship afloat while his successor is groomed.

I think so as well but i am happy that it looks like we don't have to throw picks to a vet bridge qb. I still hope if we sign him which i believe when he gets cut that we draft one qb to compete and built him up. Jimmy got some experience here and from Shanahan so it should be good for the rookie

One thing I realized about Jimmy - he has a no-trade clause. So much like Watson, he can demand where he goes. Have to assume NE would be high on his list. However, Bill may not want his current contract. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jimmy's agent talk with Bill and get an agreement that Jimmy will get somewhat similar money but more years. Then Jimmy can just hold his no-trade clause and force his own release, allowing NE to sign him to a new deal with no draft picks exchanged.

That said - if Jimmy isn't set on NE and would explore other destinations, a trade is back on the table. Either way you'd think his contract will get re-done right away since it's a little expensive and he only has 2 years left.

It makes sense for Jimmy to play ball. The niners can outright release him and no one is paying him that salary.

I do also wonder if there's truth to the rumors that Jimmy G is frustrated with Shanahans offense.

I’d be ok with Jimmy coming back, drafting TE pitts at 15, sign Goodwin or galladay. Draft D the rest of the picks
Pipe dream I suppose.

Why would Jimmy redo his contract? Why accept staying with a team that wants you to take a pay cut, and obviously has little faith in you? I would think that he would wait to be cut, and then be able to find a situation that is acceptable to him. If he is to accept less money. surely it is right for him to pick the team.

As far as a trade, I suppose that he might accept one with no new contract. Since SF can't trade him without his approval, why should he make a team like the patriots lose a draft choice if he wants to play here. He can just wait to be cut, and then negotiate with the patriots.

I'd opt for Trubisky for short dollars......zero interest in the 20+M/yr guys who are available
Great post Cousin!
Before I comment on this stuff, to wake up I had some Saturday breakfast. I had a cheese omelette, crisp bacon, a piece of that blueberry lemon pound cake with real butter, Orange juice and coffee (working on Cup #2) Mitch Trubisky did not fair well in Chicago and was a young QB with inconsistencies but not for lack of trying, He has had more potential game-winning or game-tying drives (last 2 minutes or overtime) end in a missed field goal than successful game-winning drives. 4 missed FGs (2017 Det, 2018 Miami + Philly, 2019 LAC)5 Fourth Quarter Comebacks, But he has the knack od comebacks. 7 Game-Winning Drives.
Maybe Josh can straighten him out? Josh needs to help Josh's brand value now after this year.
The other QB I would keep my eye on is Kyle Allen of The Football Team. The Pats tries to grab him when the Panthers were trying to trade him. I think Washington gets into bids for a Watson (typical Snyder move) or a Stafford.
Both of these would be cheaper than Watson (he ain't goin anywhere), Ryan, Stafford, Goff, Wentzel etc,. Yes it would be fun to see them but.....this is not a BB move.

I think we are saying the same thing to a certain extent. SF can't trade him without his waiving of the no-trade clause. He can choose where he allows them to trade him to. They could simply cut him, but may want to get some draft capital. He could force his own release, but may not get as much short-term money in a new contract elsewhere. Therefore, I can see a scenario where Jimmy allows a trade to NE, NE agrees to send something like a 3rd rounder (sending the comp pick gained from Brady's departure would be poetic in a certain kind of way), and in doing so they get him on a bridge-type contract where they can pivot to a drafted QB in 2 years if they so choose. Probably paying a little more than they'd like but the terms are team-friendly.

It sure is a nice dream though. Jimmy + Pitts + a year 2 jump from Asiasi & Keene + a WR1 in free agency. Would probably still have another $25m+ in cap space left after those moves too, could grab some above-average players that other teams are forced to cut to get under the cap.

49'ers can cut Garoppolo if they get Stafford, but why would they if they can get a low pick for him? Wouldn't cutting Garoppolo be the worse case scenario for them. Is there a trade market for Garoppolo? Colts? Bears? Denver? Panthers? Houston? Steelers? If Stafford goes to the 49'ers I'm sure BB thinking would be "they need to cut Garoppolo now" and BB will just wait it out, if even interested. However, I could see a potential trade market for Garoppolo if the 49'ers were to get Stafford "today". Of course Garoppolo will have a say where he goes.

It's very bizarre that there is supposedly all this interest in stafford but no word on what teams are involved or what they are offering. Just rumors from local media guys.

I wonder if there's posturing by the lions because no one is giving up their high 1st.
