Patricia, the defensive coordinator, said he is “very, very happy” with cornerback Aqib Talib’s work ethic and approach. The Patriots acquired Talib last November, so as time has passed, coaches have had a longer look at Talib's integration into the team’s system and way of doing business. “He really practices hard and competes every day,” Patricia said. “He’s a good example out on the field for those guys that are coming into our program to get behind and follow along.”

Very good to hear

I am a big fan of Talib; shockingly I what really made me think highly of him was the preseason player where he got beat by Jackson for a TD and they showed him on the bench laughing it up 2 minutes later, the problem we’ve had since Ty Law’s departure is we’ve had so many overly emotional CB who cannot handle any adversity, it eats them up and eventually leads to their demise. Talib seems to take football seriously, but not himself, he doesn’t get hung up on a bad play, he processes his mistake and moves on, and that also rubbed off on Dennard last year, I’m looking forward to seeing that tandem play ball this year, especially with McCourty behind them in a great position for him to do what he does best and make plays on the ball instead of trying to play a player.

last year at end he wasn't 100%. But i have heard nothing but great things about his ethic out on the practice field and in games. Always a big fan of that

They're going to sign him to a long term extension next year.

...just a thought... is it possible that whatever happen to the "prisoner" scared $hitless some of the "bad apples" on the team, and they're working their tails off?!!? Maybe just wishful thinking on my part ...

Every player gets beat on one play here or there. After all, the OTHER team always gets a vote in the final score.

The really good ones are the players who can let it go, and concentrate on the next play, the next series, the next game. Use it to get better, but don't dwell on it.

I doubt it. Devin McCourty will get the long term extension not Aqib Talib. Only so many high dollar contracts to go around in the salary cap era.

No matter how many quality players the Pats sign long term, people will still say they can't, they won't!

Vollmer, Wilfork, Mayo, Seymour, (in his prime) Gronk, Hernandez (so he's a psycho. No indication it was anything but a good signing football wise -he said and did all the right things).

When are people going to realize they know their business and build around a core of players that are talented and committed to the team.

Given Talib's virtual gushing embrace of the Patriots way, why wouldn't they find a way to make him and McCourty the backbone of the secondary and defense overall?

It's not like they haven't for the whole BB era, all of it under the cap, some years better than others.

Take note also, how they roll these contracts to hit hardest in different years.

If they and the player want it, they can do it. It's what they know how to do.

They tried to but Talib wanted a 1 year deal.

They tried to get him on a low ball deal, not surprising for someone left like a barrel on the curb by Tampa (needed a 7th just to complete a 4th round deal for a former #1).

Pats love prove it deals and Talibs trying to prove it.

Pats have something in the area of $7M under the cap. They can do both deals. $5M per year for 3 years should do it.

last year at end he wasn't 100%

I don't believe that Talib has ever been 100% at the end of any season either due to injury or suspension, but I could be wrong.

He's going into his 6th yr and I can definitely narrow it down to at least 4 out of his 5 previous years, but I believe that we've discussed the fact here that he's never successfully completed a season.

Not sure if this is true or not, but according to rotoworld.com Talib turned down TWO multi year deals with teams that were not the Patriots due to the money not being good enough.

That is supposedly why he took the one year prove it deal, b/c he felt that next yr's market and opportunities would be better.

"The money just hasn't been there for cornerbacks, and Talib reportedly turned down two multi-year contracts elsewhere to stay in Foxboro. The Redskins may have been one of those clubs, as they targeted Talib in the early days of free agency."

Talib will return to the Patriots on a one-year contract, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported, per a source, that Talib will earn $5 million in the deal.

Talib decided to sign the one-year contract rather than a five-year pact in hopes of cashing in afterward, Rapoport and Breer reported. The cornerback passed on three other options to remain on the Patriots.
"cashing in" and "home town discount" do not equate.

Yeah, it appears to me that he wasn't too keen on the multi year offers that he received, from the other 2 teams + the Patriots.

It would seem that he decided to wait and see if the market and his opportunities improved by waiting until next year. I don't see much of anything that screams "hometown discount" but we probably don't have enough info to make that determination.

The Washington Redskins were interested in Talib because they have his former coach, Raheem Morris, on staff.
