Agree. The worst of it is over, now they can start building for 2018. Waddle would be a band aid and they can address the longer term picture at LT with Garcia or another draft pick.

Wow.. I'm extremely surprised that Solder got a contract for 15.5M per APY and with $35M guaranteed.. Going to the Giants, at least we don't have to worry about facing him twice a year.

The Butler signing was pretty bad from a value standpoint, but it wasn’t completely egregious. Thr cornerback market has been set for some time. The Solder signing was really over the top. They just set the market and paid a guy who arguably isn’t a top-10 tackle more money than any other tackle in the league. Talking about “need” is a great way to justify any move, no matter how bad it is. Solder is not even capable of returning good value with that contract.

One potential option out there is Peters from Philly. He said he's returning to play and they don't really need him/afford him. Has 10.5M cap hit for Philly and would have only 7.5M for Pats. Of course 6.5M dead cap would be tough to swallow for PHI..

I thought with his family situation, the Patriots would have a chance to get him to stay for less money. But when you think about it, his wife, and presumably her family, is from Southbury, CT, which is not that far from Met Life Stadium where the Giants play. On top of that, NYC has some of the best cancer treatment centers in the country. Add in the insane contract $$ and it really makes sense that he'd grab this deal.
