SMY: Moss, Burgess, Guyton, and Thomas sent home Wed after late for 8am meeting

I wonder how many people on this board were sent home because they were late for work today.

Who would be late to a job where you can spend the day on a Pats forum!?

We're not paid millions every year to take part in key things like meetings.

If you don't do your job properly, you get an ass-kicking.

Exactly.

And here's a great note from Fauria via Tom Curran (who has inked... pixeled... another real good article).

Curran: Belichick throws the challenge flag
FOXBORO -- Former Patriots tight end Christian Fauria said Bill Belichick's philosophy on punctuality was simple.

"Bill used to say, 'It's New England. Make sure you leave yourself enough time to get here. And that doesn't mean you can call 10 minutes before 8 and tell me you'll be late. Regardless of what time you're supposed to be here, leave time for inclement weather.'
"In my book, it's unbelievably careless," said Fauria, who won two Super Bowls in his time here.

Asked if he thought the disciplined players would now be prone to bailing completely on the team, Fauria said, "I hope they're more mentally tough than to give up because they're late. But if a guy who's already disenchanted -- and Adalius [Thomas] certainly plays that way -- it now goes even lower and could add fuel to that fire."

I had an employee come in late today due to the snowy conditions. She even had left early and still didn't get here on time. I told her it was ok.
Had I been a coach of a football team (no less, one with rumored locker room problems) I would have done the exact same thing. If you can't see the difference between a 'working' job and one that pays millions to play a game, then I can't help you.

The roads are different for people with more money?

If the reports regarding the traffic because of bad weather is true and tha'ts the reason why they couldn't get there on time, then this is stupid.

What kind of message are you really sending? That you're unreasonable?

Just like a regular job. If you're late, you're late and will be dealt with. As others have said, 60+ guys made it just fine (including someone who just saw his son be born) and these guys knew ahead of time what weather they were facing. The team is 7-5 and BB needs to let them know that they are not allowed to slack off in any way possible... no matter what the excuse is.

Sure are, they drive Lamborghinis and Hummers I dont. Road would be much smoother didnt you know that..

Driving a lambroghini in the snow? Maybe if you're suicidal...

Some models come with AWD. Still wouldnt be dumb enough to drive one in the snow though.

TB is at practice after the birth of his kid and BB's dad dies the night before he is to coach.

Not saying it it right, but thats the level of committment this organization demands from the players.

Cassel I believe was given a choice to miss the game after his dad(?) died last year. Why was the rule different for him?

A guy with stones would have sacked up and gotten past it. That's why he isn't here anymore.

Your an idiot..sorry but someone has to say it....What a Heartless human being!

damn...that's harsh dude.

Probably a good thing you're not running a team.

The message is simply no more excuses. If football is not your #1 priority right now then go home.

I think the long term affect of this will be positive but I am concerned about how Moss is going to react. That will be the most interesting thing to watch this week.

Cool that Shalise actually reads (and posts) this forum! Maybe she can get more details on how late Moss was.

As for those of you that think this is a bit excessive, I agree that in the real working world it would be. But football is not the real world either. Its run closer to how the military is run, esp. with BB at the helm. No nonsense. No excuses. Tedy Johnson, on Felger-Mazz this afternoon, gave a pretty candid description of the tone that exists in a Belicheck locker room. He casts a very large shadow and you know its all business when you enter. Very much like a drill sargeant.

Some of you must live and fantasyland because if I have an important meeting and the weather is bad, I leave extra early. I'm never late because I have to be on time or it looks bad to the people who will determine whether I get a promotion or not. I wonder how important some or your meetings are that you can use weather as an excuse.

If you can't see how those are two different circumstances then I can't help you.

I *THINK* he was being sarcastic. Even so, pretty sick joke.

I suppose it depends on the nature of the meeting. If you are meeting a client who is potentially going to shell out millions of dollars then you make a point of being there on time and account for weather and traffic. I think this is how seriously BB wants his players to take this meeting.

But lets not carry this too far. Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances and a bit of grace can be extended. We don't all work for slave drivers.

Weather isn't an extenuating cirumstance if you know the weather is going to be bad the day before. It's also not working for slave drivers. It's called professional courtesy. I understand what you're saying but unless this storm was unexpected (it wasn't), you shouldn't use it as an excuse.

Traffic in bad weather is not something you can measure with 100% accuracy. I once left 40 minutes than usual and was still 2 hours late because 3 accidents closed 3 different roads.

Despite the nonsense some people here are trying to put forth, weather and traffic do make even the most driven people late for appointments of various kinds.

Weather, weather, weather. Three of the four players who would merit dog house consideration by most fans, were the ones late. What a freakin' coincidence.

Moss has reportedly been fine with this team, and the next problem I hear regarding Guyton's behavior or attitude will be the first.

I prefer to base my points on facts, not hunches and coincidences, when possible.
