Recently cut by Miami.

I'll put it simple: sign the beast.

Starks and Fairley available.

Who's a better fit?

Well, to start:

The Patriots are showing interest in free agent defensive tackle Nick Fairley, per source.

I'm sure Starks is an option as well. Knighton still the crown jewel of DT's available after Suh officially signs. Would love to bring him in.

...probably very unaffordable but I'd certainly love to lineup Fairley and Knighton between Jones and Ninkovich with Ayers (or Sheard/high draft pick)/Easley spelling the core 4. That would be an instant interior rush and run stuffing combination/upgrade that we probably haven't had since ...ever?

With Mayo healthy, Hightower also can go back to rushing like he did early 2014, I think it's forgotten how dominant he was at times rushing the passer in the first 5 games, he didn't rack up gaudy sack numbers but I swear he had 2-3 hits and 4-5 hurries per game, or at least it felt that way.

This is one "sign the beast" I can get behind.

But don't we have more money now?

We do, but the DT market hasn't been set, Suh's deal will only influence MoWilk next year, not anyone this season.

If Fairley is asking for 5-6/yr and Knighton 8+/yr then we probably sign Starks for 3-4 or bring back Vince at 6 (we're reportedly still interested last I read and I'd be surprised if he isn't as well, him being released probably made him happier rather than being held "hostage" as players see it, plus his family has been rooted here for 10 years now).

Edit: right on time -

With defensive tackle money drying up a bit, there is still a chance Vince Wilfork and the #Patriots work out a deal. He's taking his time.

Edit 2:

My numbers on Wilfork/Starks/Knighton/Fairley are obviously 100% made up, just examples.

But don't we have more money now?

Ya they could do it. $14m under right now, several ways of getting more cap space, could get them in on deals that have a low first year cap number.

Starks and Fairley available.

Who's a better fit?

Both. Sign both of them. Starks probably won't be too expensive, while Fairley will be pretty expensive.

Belichick has praised Starks in the past. He's 31 years old, mind you.

Starks has become a liability against the run

Dan Williams please

Starks
Fairley
Wilfork

Bring them all in.

Randy Starks is the vet version of what we hope Dominique Easley can be. I say sign him now

Starks
Fairley
Wilfork

I see very few people mentioning Knighton, he's better than the other 3 at this stage.

Is he left out because he's more of a 3-4 DT (just like VW was, playing in our 4 man front) or because of probable price?

Add him to the list. There are no CBs left on the market, so the Patriots need to significantly improve everywhere else they can, in order to make up for it.

I think Big Vince might be better off going to the Texans, but N.E. needs players.

Good question. Not much info regarding Knighton...
