This is actually a year where I'd love to see the Patriots find a way to get a pick (or picks) rolled over into the 2020 first round, in order to stockpile ammunition for a move up to get a QB.

Yeah, could see that move out of round 1 pick up another 1st for next year and 2nd this year would be nice. That would give us 3 2nds, and 3 3rds I would believe. Then package the 2 1's next year and jump up for one of the Tua's or Herbert's of the world.

But without a doubt they need to nail the picks in the first 3 rounds this year. Have to get some Rookies that can jump in and play. Getting Wynn and Bentley back is already a good step in that direction.

Still think they chose the wrong guy when they supposedly “had to” pick one or the other, but we've already spent years going over that decision. Wilfork worked out well enough to win another title here, although there’s no doubting that guys like Seymour are harder to find.

Understanding that they weren’t the same player and had different responsibilities in a different system, I think the closest thing we’ve had since may have been Aikeem Hicks. It’s a shame that they pinched pennies in that scenario. I think they need to spend a couple of higher round picks on the DL, as well as considering dropping a few bucks on a free agent. The cupboard is pretty much bare.

IDK. On the way to looking up something else last spring, I saw a quote from Hicks saying that he thought the Pats had made a very good offer. My guess is that he really just wanted to play for Fangio again.

It’s possible, although hearing him tell the story of how Belichick called one last time at the very end with a final offer may lead one to believe that they simply didn’t pony up enough money, especially since he signed a fairly reasonable 2/10 deal with Chicago.

Now, he’s got yearly cap hits around 10m a season, so his gamble on himself paid off. The Bears did pretty well, too!

OTOH, Hicks had his best seasons in NOL in Rob Ryan's 3-4. Not so much as a rookie in Spagnuolo's hybrid or in 2015 under Dennis Allen after Ryan was fired (which is partly how the Pat got Hicks in the first place).

Hicks did better in the Pats' hybrid scheme, but he's exploded in Fangio's 3-4 in Chicago.

I'm thinking there's a parallel with Chris Long refusing to re-up with the Pats, preferring Schwartz's attacking 4-3 in Philly to his role in the Pats' hybrid front. It's not always about the money.

True, although I think a desire to see more playing time was openly discussed with the Chris Long situation, too. Could’ve been the same with Hicks, as he was only seeing approx. 30% of the snaps.

Either way, I still think he was the closest we got to Seymour again.

The situtional/rotational, multiple-role thing in the Pats' scheme probably isn't every player's cup of tea.

Supposedly failed drug test. He's 340, injuries & a bit over hyped. Good player but he's not a NT you take in the 1st imo. I think him & Wilkins are 2nd Rd guys wout having graded them.

The Patriots need a 0/1-tech that can swallow up double teams, funnel runs to the outside, and keep the opposing guards from getting to the second level and on top of our LBs. I like Wilkins, but as others have mentioned, he's a 3-tech ideally. Think Brown with possibly more upside. That role is also needed, but not nearly as much as the Patriots need a more traditional NT.

I will confess to you, Senator, that I have personally known Communists and have witnessed them gathering in small, private groups. And I can tell you, Sir, without any doubt in my mind, that the terms "Communist" and "Par-TAY!" are mutually exclusive concepts. All due respect, Senator, but the sticks up their butts are even bigger than the one that's up yours.

    :)

I was thinking of these two players the other night. Wilkins might be what we hoped Brown would be. I know I thought Brown had upside bc he flashed the ability to convert speed to power in a short area. Wilkins has always been that type of player. Not looking to waste any time. Burst, move/counter & go. Short arms but as long as he hits first he usually makes up for it.
