fair enough
If we have a backup LG who can start if needed, Strange can be the #3 center.

I would note that Wilson may not be ready to be the #2 for Game One
==========
If Strange and Sow can be counted on at LG, then we're fine. If not, we need to acquire a veteran LG.
I think between our projected starters and certainly amongst the depth we still have needs or questions I don't think many would argue that.

Last year we knew we had needs too but at least in my case I thought if 4 of the 5 starters could be decent then maybe LT wouldn't kill us (or RT if the right guy switched to LT). Then of course Andrews got hurt, Onwenwu regressed, no one could switch to LT and just about everyone else fell apart from there.

I think we need to remind ourselves how much went wrong to get us in such a mess last year. Even if things aren't perfect amongst our 5 starters and/or depth I think we have enough not to fall back anywhere close to where we were last year.

A lot to put on a rookie but I'd like to think our number 4 pick alone would prevent us from being the mess we were last year. And I'll repeat what I said last year if 4 out 5 can be decent I think we can fill in that 5th guy a number of ways including some of those questionable depth guys when someone inevitably gets banged up.

We need to look at the gameday roster, that’s only 48 players. You need a center and a guy on your bench who can play center or guard.

Beyond that if Bradbury gets injured (example) Strange can slide over from LG to Center, and then they have to hope Wilson is ready… then go out and poach a center off someone else’s practice squad. They have flexibility with Bradbury, Strange and Wilson… which is why I said outside of injury or trade Brown has no chance.

The talent is much, much better than last year.
==========================
We have 5 NFL quality starters, including the #4 pick who should expect to be an NFL starter
We have 4 backups with some starting experience: Lowe, Sow, L. Robinson and Wallace (a little for him)
We have a 3rd rounder who should be able to contribute, perhaps not immediately.
======
IMO, last year we had one of the very worst OL's in the league, even BEFORE all the injuries.

We could be almost average this year. Presuming some decent performance at WR, this would make us a contender for the playoffs.

Yes, we need backups/depth at each of these OL positions.
LT (Lowe)
LG (Sow)
RG (L Robinson)
C (Wilson)
RT (Wallace)
================
emergency 3rd C/OG (Brown)
==========
I continue to believe that our weakness on the OL is at LG: starter and backup LG). And yes, I know that we won't carry 11 OL's on the 53.
==========
EDIT
Yes, the emergency backup OC can be Strange.

BEST CASE
SOW wins the starting LG position and Strange is first off the bench at LG and OC,
Agreed here. LG is a spot to keep a watch. Will Strange remain healthy??.. training camp is a big time for Strange.. he is the incumbent starter as his strength and athleticism is a great attribute for LG.. he just needs to stay healthy and remind consistent. Sow is breathing down his neck..

I don't feel that Sow would've earned the RT job as much as it would've been handed to him due to circumstance.

Besides, I also still feel that he's better-suited to the Left side because of his physical/athletic ability.
Sow is best on the left. Quite frankly all OL are supposed to know the other spots for emergency.

It's laughable that this misdirection would still be posted. It's directly from the school of thought that if you say something enough times, it becomes true.

Everyone was hurt at that time. The backup was even Bill Murray, who was a defensive tackle his entire career.

Sow was all that was left at RT during 2023 preseason. The position was severely depleted due to injuries to JAGS like Conor McDermott. As soon as Mike Onwenu was ready, they played him out of position in order to move Sow back to guard.

The question is why someone who won the job in 2023, never was used at the position again, despite being a candidate now for being cut as a guard?

Anyone who actually attended camp and watched preseason games saw Sidy Sow work his way up the depth chart and improve week after week. He took that RT job and moved inside due to circumstances. Nothing got handed to anyone under BB… this wasn’t 2024.

Moreover when he ended up playing, as bad as that overall team was… Sow at guard and Onwenu at right tackle was a dominating side of the line. I think Sow has flexibility to play guard or even tackle. We’ll see, he’s young and has time to prove himself.

This is patently untrue, in fact after Strange got hurt they had players like Calvin Anderson and Riley Reiff, who Sow beat out at tackle, that could play tackle. These guys were a lot less effective at guard.

Eventually the offense and line was such a discombobulated mess it was better for the team to put the rookie at right guard between two vets… one of the coaches said this in an interview. If things had gone to plan Sow at RT was the best five players. He might be better at guard, but he has some flexibility. That’s a net positive.

Some are saying Wilson is a cerebral C…if he’s like that, smart etc, we could be seeing him win the battle for C. Sure he has to get stronger and other things…but I honestly HOPE he does earn it in TC.

I think Brown has a fighting chance to beat out Bradbury.
Okay.

Bradbury might be toast, if so the chances of Brown beating out Strange or Wilson at center are so small you’d need a microscope to see them. The chances he beats out all three as the best option almost nonexistent assuming health.

This is what's untrue. Calvin Anderson was out all training camp with malaria, and never was ready to play that year.

Reiff was so banged up he barely played the entire year (one game). I think I remember your posting how he was done.

There was literally no one else.

Why if Sow truly won a starting tackle job as a rookie was he never ever again tried there with the shortage of the team's tackles? Even when he's a bubble candidate at guard???

Brown is the teams back up OC until Wilson is able to beat him out. might be game 1 or might be game 8.
Brown would be relegated to the PS once Wilson does beat him out.

What positions are you keeping on the 53? I have
LT 2
LG 2
OC 2
RG 2
RT 2

Even that is a lot. In the past, we have kept 8 or 9 or 10.

For me, that doesn't leave room for Brown. Strange is likely the backup OC until Wilson is ready.

He's certainly a physically & athletically gifted Center... He does have to get stronger, but 23 reps isn't a bad place to start. He's also young too: he turned 22 just last month, so there's ample time to grow into the frame he'll use for the rest of his NFL career.

If Bradbury holds service as the starting Center throughout TC & preseason, I wonder if Wilson will be given an opportunity to compete for the starting Left Guard position...?

I'll be satisfied if he can win the backup center job with an expectation that he can be a good starter next year.
