Why extend a guy that is complaining about playing out a contract that is paying him $13 Million a year ($16.3 Million/year with his earned incentives)? He's conveniently forgotten this, hasn't he? If they extend him, he'll just complain about the last years of that extension.
This is the problem with almost every front-loaded NFL contract that reaches it’s final year. Teams think they have a potential bargain in the final year if they pay most of the total before then…and they prefer this way so they can move on without a huge cap hit. Player, of course, looks at salary of that year alone as opposed to contract totality. As a player, I’d do the same thing…the owners already have so much control compared to other pro sports leagues.
@Ice_Ice_Brady I understand and appreciate your point but I am not sure as to why a player should get more money after signing a contract , maybe thats just how players and owners operate in sports.
In saying that I think we need to keep him for another year
Does anybody else cringe when articles quote a base salary and nothing else? Signing bonuses exist, people. His last contract gave him $13M/year. Just because a big slug of that came up front don't mean he's "only making $7M this year".
Now we can argue if $13M/y is fair or not, but the $7M figure has no useful meaning
no new deal.......the comp pick for his departure is too important.
if he doesn't like it, trade him to the NFC
Funny he didn’t mind the front loaded contract the first couple years of the deal.

They absolutely gave him extra in 2020. He was scheduled to receive $10.5m in cash in 2020 but instead they gave him $15.5m. They didn't have to do it but they did.The Pats still have 16m in open cap space . Just give some to Gilmore. The Pats didn't give him extra last year, they just moved up a bit of money from this year into last year. The Patriots go nowhere in seasons when they don't have an elite cornerback.
They'll get no comp picks and like it.I’m not certain on how the calendar works, but aren’t the Patriots out of this year’s comp pick running due to all their free agent signings?
I have no idea why these sportswriters think things are hunky dory between the NEP and Gilly and it'll all work itself out.Does anybody else cringe when articles quote a base salary and nothing else?
