Should the Patriots Bring in Incognito?

The primary question is: is Incognito an upgrade over what we have now?
The next question is: Is the upgrade significant enough to accept the initial negative press?

If both answers are yes, bringing him in begins to make some sense. First, it would be a Haynesworth like Contract. He's easily gotten rid of with no tangible $$$ impact if his play isn't up to snuff or he is a disruption to chemistry (I'd bet the mortgage payment he's likely to be a good teammate -- he must be desperate to reestablish/redeem himself. Need is the mother of invention as well as change). Second, "womanizer", "jerk" etc are not valid reasons to outright dismiss bringing him in. This will come as a shock to some fans but currently, likely, you root/rooted for/like/liked pro athletes, among others, that fit that description to a T. Third, as crappy as his locker room behavior seemingly was, his locker room behavior may have been what he was weened on. This stuff have been part of football in some corners for a long time (probably a lot longer than it should -- that's a different discussion). Lastly, and maybe more importantly, what he did makes him beyond redemption?? People make mistakes, sometimes really bad ones. Incognito made some really bad mistakes. However, the mistakes he made, IMHO, do not equal him being barred for eternity from his profession. This guy has been harshly punished for his transgressions in more ways than one. Some might argue punished far beyond the crime (again a different discussion). Is there no room whatsoever to allow someone, who made mistakes like he did, a chance at redemption?? My beliefs of erring/the imperfections of the human condition are not rigid.

I wouldn't say it literally has nothing do with evaluating him vs. our other options. If we can't look at his previous performance and how his team did with him and without him, than I'm not sure how you evaluate whether he would help this team. Especially since it's a pass protection statistic and the main concern for many Pats fans is the pass protection he would provide.

I think I understand what YOUR point is in that it doesn't mean Incognito wouldn't help the Patriots, but again I think it's perfectly valid to bring up the fact there was an improvement in sacks allowed once he was out of the line-up. If nothing else, to bring context into the situation because I think some people think Incognito is better than he actually has been (at least in pass protection). He may have more talent and ability than our current options, I can't really speak to that definitively.

Absolutely bring him in if he can still play well. You think he was the first football player to be a "bully?" It should mean something that all the guys in the Dolphins locker room had his back...even the black guys despite his N word usage.

He should already be here, our line is horrible. One has to wonder if Mankins pass def. numbers were poor due to covering Solder @ss. Because he has been awful!!!!

lol at thinking this guy is the savior of the line. You know what the savior of the line will be picking 5 guys none named Jordan Devey and sticking with them.

Cannon plays no snaps at Guard all preseason and then is thrust into the LG spot. Jordan Devey gets 100% of the snaps at RG and impressed no-one outside of the two guys that matter for whatever reason. Stork misses time which sets him back.

The Devey project should have been over after the first week of preseason. Fleming/Connolly/Cannon should have got reps there. With Wendell/Connolly seeing reps at C while Stork was out.

You then go into the season Solder-Connolly-Wendell*-Fleming-Vollmer

*Until Stotk was ready.

First game you start with Solder-Cannon-Connolly-Devey-Voll!er. Wendell gets put in and Connolly slides over they play OK. Then Wendell goes down.

Second game they scheme it up and go heavy on the run.

Third game instead of scheming it up against the poor Raiders run defense like they did the prior week they decide to run their normal offense and while miscues at the goal line made the game closer than it should be the line in basically their 2nd week pass protector looks like an offense that is in their 2nd week of pass protecting together.

Then the changes come and while it wasnt great after having only about 5 days of practice together as a unit it did seem like thats a line that could be decent with some more time together especially if Solder starts playing consistently ok football.
