Shake-up at WEEI - D&H out

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

I hate to break it to people on here, but its 100% true that Felger is the best sports personality on the radio right now in Boston.

Michael Felger is really good at his job at 98.5.

People can choose to deny it b/c of his history of annoyingness, I know I tried, but he runs a good show. That's all there is to it. He makes the Big O look like amateur hour.

I barely listen to the local crap here, sirius man myself, but if I had to pick Felger or the Big O.. I'm going to make my decision on the lesser of two evils.. Big O brings nothing to the table and as WEEI is showing, the format is stale, a change is needed to counter 98.5

That being said, if you want football 24x7, pay the 150 bucks a year and listen to guys who have run organizations or actually played the game..

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

...because, gee wiz, your opinion is more valid that mine? I hardly ever listen to that moron - and when I see him on Comast - I switch the channel.

I hate Felgar. Although if he is the best, I am sure he has the best ratings, right? Oh he doesn't, hmm.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Mike Felger is without a doubt the ingredient that saved Boston sports radio...the creme de le la creme, if you will...He is the sunshine on cloudy day...numero uno, el capitan, el jefe....Senor Felger is without peer...

Honestly, though, he's not that bad. I find him most annoying, though, when he gets on a topic and keeps hammering it, and hammering it, and hammering it...it's at that point when I change the channel. He's done this with the following topics, to name a few...Pats don't need Moss, Kevin Garnett is really a p#ssy, Tukka Rask is better than Tim Thomas...the list goes on...

I find it's best to listen to him in maybe 15 minute doses, then go do something else, then tune back in 15 minutes later...

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone by expressing my opinion. That said, by your own admission, you don't listen to Felger on 98.5 so how can you weigh in with an informed opinion. I used to think Felger was a complete moron, too - and heck, I still do - and you can find post after post of me ripping the guy a new one. But I listened to him run a radio show, and he is good at his craft.

Everyone oughta do themselves a favor and listen to 98.5 for the entirety of one of their commutes for a week. I guarantee 80% of listeners won't switch back to WEEI. Maybe Holley will rescue that afternoon show from its current shtick, but until then, it's no contest.

Right, because as I said above, obviously Avatar is the best movie of all-time; Justin Bieber is a musical genius; and Two & a Half Men will go down as the greatest sitcom of all time...come on, popularity != quality.

And even then, Felger & Mazz have been chipping away at the Big O's ratings from the moment they went on.

Again, Felger is a "d-bag". Even Felger admits this and openly refers to himself as such...jokingly, but it's true.

But who is a better radio host in Boston? Gresh, god no. Big O, not anytime in the last decade. D&C, forget about it. Toucher & Rich, god no, even if they are enjoyable at times. It certainly isn't Dale (as good as he is, Holley is a sidekick, Dale leads that show, for right or wrong).

There's not a lot of competition, but Felger & Mazz is by far the most focused, well-run, well-produced show on air, and reluctantly one has to admit that a lot of it has to do with chief d-bag, Michael Felger.

There is only one show on 98.5 that is better than its counterpart (I don't listen to the late night stuff), and that's the DA show. 10-6 on 98.5 is an absolute joke.

I said I hardly ever listen - which implies that I have and decided it sucked....which is exactly what happened. Felger is a dope. How anyone can listen to his pontifications upon his high and mighty horse.....I swear, he spent an entire weeks worth of show on Moss sucks.....five weeks after he was traded.....fer crissakes, we get it, azzhole, you hated Moss.

He does a good job if it is to drive listeners away. And saying 'best sports personality' is like saying 'best serial killer' - they all suck.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

I'm guessing that theory is connected to the ethnicity issue, but, in my opinion, if one goes there one had better have some solid evidence to support that theory.

i thought his theory was more pointing to religion, but none of that matters to me. suffice it to say both stations suck, but 98.5 sucks more. get rid of felger and mazz and i might try listening again.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Yeah, he is one of us, an unabashed homer.

I loved Pete ... actually listened more to the Big Show when Ordway the blowhard was on vacation and Pete was running the board. Pete talked with the caller ... not down or up to them ... he was one of us.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Love him or hate him (as most do), Felger is the best on air personality in Boston Sports talk radio right now. Period.

Does he play the contrarian? Absolutely. But not nearly as much as some around here would like to believe. Many of his takes are based in sound logic and he is prepared to back them up after LETTING THE CALLER ACTUALLY GET THEIR COMMENTS IN.

I find his show fresh, entertaining, and bold. Neither he nor Mazz are afraid to take guests to task on touchy issues. he had Bud Selig squirming yesterday afternoon. :rocker:

Just threw up in my mouth ...

Felger is the local personality most often called a D-Bag ... and he agrees with that.

Seriously a debate over who is better Ordway or Felger ...

Which is better athlete's foot or diarrhea ... :confused3:

In that case YES... his opinion on the show is absolutely more valid than yours considering you don't even listen to him.

Am I missing something here?

yea... a homer.

A good guy to have a few beers with... but I would rather my sports talk be a little more balanced. The Pom-Pom shtick is annoying.

In case you didn't know, other than the former professional athletes who may actually have a connection, these guys are just us. They just happened to go to the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.

Well not so fast ... Felger is a devout Packer fan ... so he's not me.

Re: OT: Shake-up at WEEI D & H out

Too much Merloni was the reason I hardly ever tuned into the early CSSNE Sports Tonight (Twellman's rise displacing so much Merloni leads me to believe I wasn't alone when flicking to another channel as soon as I glimpsed Lou's mug.) . I'm sure he's a nice guy, etc., but he grates on me when not talking about baseball. The D and H show was the only time I ever tuned in WEEI any more. At least I know now I'm not missing anything during day.

Holley on the big show? Intellect, savvy, and interolance of gay bashing in a Big Show host? That can't be right...

The ship is sinking and they are trying to make gold out of lead, see the Middle Ages for how well that worked.

Not really....

Many of them are former/current sports journalists and beat writers. Pete Sheppard is a Pats fan with a communications degree. Nothing more.

I think the best ones facilitate good discussion between themselves and the callers. In the old days ... in the 90's I listened to get information - but we have better ways to get that now. I listen now to hear the interviews and listen to the opinions of the callers ... Pete was good at that ... so is Dale.

It's a matter really of why you listen ... but to say they only have a communications degree means little ... many successful people in life are more self taught than school taught ... in communications to me the best ones are great listeners.

i don't like Felger because I don't care to listen to contrarian crap ... or why Belichick called one bad play - or francona lifted a pitcher a pitch to late ... that's just fodder for pessimists.

Always tuned in on the days that people like McAdam, MacMullen, Cedric Maxwell, Bob Ryan, Troy Brown, Tom E. Curran or maybe Smerlas and DeOssie were on..

It seemed as though as much as they disrepected the listener, they respected these folks knowledge..

Not sure that this formula will meet my needs for the insight that these folks provided.. do not listen so much for the discussion between the caller and the host, but more for the insight provided by those whose sports is their craft..
