Brett Favre's diet consisted of "meat, potatoes and beer" and has recently changed his diet after retirement. Brady eats avocado ice cream.

There are forty year olds that run triathlons while other forty year olds huff and puff their fat asses up a flight of stairs.

This isn't a knock on Favre btw. He's in better shape than I am and was a fun QB to watch.

We are uncharted territory with brady. We don't know if his diet and exercise routine will allow him to play at a high level until he's 45. No one has ever done it before. I think bill is unsure too.

How does he rally the team when he's down?
If he throws a int or two how does he respond?
If he is incredible pain but can still give us the best chance to win is he on the field?
Does he want to be great and win multiple championships or win 1 or none and cash in?
Will he put individual statistics aside to win the game?
Will he help the team out capwise when they need it?
When he gets older will he take care of his body diet properly can he stay in great shape for at least the next 7 to 10 years?
How does he respond when he is rattled?
Does he point the finger at himself after a loss or other coaches and or team mates?
Will he work on everything including the things he does incredibly well?
Can he influence and bring in free agents to want to play for us?
After making this list I realize how incredibly spoiled with Tom!
Rounding out will he ignore the media following Tom if he has a bad stretch or let's be honest one bad decision the press will eat him alive?
How does he handle it?
So many questions let's hope our Brain trust is 100 percent sure on these answers.

The difference between staying with a known quantity and taking a leap into the unknown. I have a feeling that Brady's play is going to make this very, very difficult.

JG and TB12 have the same agent, if Brady will listen (to Gisele and family) and retire shortly BB may know it. WE will never hear from the agent Brady of the PAtriots organization.

As I see it, five people have a say here:

1. Brady himself - he pretty clearly wants to keep playing
2. Jimmy - what (if anything) would he give up to be the Pats' long-term answer?
3. Gisele - she pretty clearly wants Brady to retire
4. Bill - who knows, but not trading Jimmy was something of a signal
5. Kraft - again who knows

My own prediction - if the Pats win this next Super Bowl, Brady retires on top. He can earn more from endorsements than from continuing to play.

One other note - the durability issue. Brady would never had suffered that injury that took Jimmy out - he would likely have thrown that ball away instead of trying to extend the play, and if he had been tackled, he would have known better how to land. As against that, as one gets older, recovery from injuries takes longer.

Yes, of course - if he's playing at an MVP level then you have to keep him. But if the pats (i.e., belichick) think there will be a considerable drop off then they'll turn to Jimmy. Belichick will not hesitate, similar to how he went with tom over drew.

I honestly think the plan originally was to have tom play until 43 or so but they are not so sure right now because jimmy has wowed them.

Good point, but I think there is one minor difference: TB12 was equal to if not better than Drew in practice and when he got his chance Brady won the job (as he has done every level in his career).
If Jimmy was equal to or better than Brady right now, I think BB would not hesitate to move on.
So despite what has been said, who has not been traded, what contracts have/have not been signed - it appears safe to say that heading into 2017 Brady is still better than Jimmy (so the Wow factor still favors TB12).
I am excited for another Super Bowl winning season from Brady and the Pats and will look forward to the Jimmy talk in the offseason.

Agree with that but was simply pointing out you can't compare Brady's 40 with Favre's 40.

I don't see how they keep both or why they would want to. To keep both puts you at such a disadvantage money wise. Either trade one or the other.

If they keep both and don't win the super bowl we will always think "what if they had another 15-20M to spend on more players... could they have tipped it in our favor?"

I'd hate to be in that spot and 2nd guessing like i think they do about 2006 where they got cheap with the offense and left a super bowl on the table cause they refused to pay for any decent WR.

Not really, no. JAG is Super Bowl insurance for Brady if he gets injurred, and only for as long as it is manageable. One year, maybe two, but that is what he is. That is value enough to keep him around while the team is jacked.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe writes that there’s a “nagging thought” that Tom Brady doesn’t really expect to play until he’s 45 and is instead setting everyone up for a surprise retirement either next spring or the one after.

Volin says there’s plenty of evidence that this could, in fact, be the case.

The first of which is the simple fact that the Patriots elected to hold on to backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo when he’s entering a contract year and could have been traded for a big return this offseason. On Thursday, Adam Schefter mentioned that he expects the Patriots to figure out a way to keep Garoppolo beyond the 2017 season.

Volin points out that Brady and Garoppolo share the same agent, which means Garoppolo will have a good idea of what the Patriots’ plans are moving forward.

Other indications that Brady could be preparing to transition away from the NFL, according to Volin, are the fact that he’s ramped up his off-field branding this year and the talk from his wife and family that would like him around more.

it's funny. It is uncharted in a way, but in another way it is already charted, by Brady himself. Brady is basically 40 NOW. (turning in August) He really has been at his absolute best the last three years and has been staggeringly great since he returned from injury in 2009. So when we say "uncharted".. He won the Super Bowl and played like an MVP this past season. 45 is just 5 more years... it is not really a long time for someone playing at his level.. so realistic , as he plays each new season, one at at time.... What do we say when each new season passes, the team goes at least 12-4, AFCCG, maybe SB. he throws 4500+ yards, 67% completion %, 37 TDs 7 INTs... I mean, we keep it going right? Not to mention, if he keeps winning Super Bowls.. I mean he IS going to make it to 45..

The other reason to stay with Brady as long as he still playing like himself is the fact that he is in every opponents head and that will only increase if the run keeps going. It really is pretty unreal.

I mean his longevity will start to get in the opponents heads as their QBs start retiring, who started after Brady, but retire before him..
