It's easy, and only takes a few moments. The problem is the jackoby has been so bad that the rest of the team was on track to quit which would have meant that those players would all be psychologically damaged for the rest of their careers. You don't have to find that out in year one. He is going to be The QB here for the next three years whether he is a bust or he busts out to greatness. With the crappy talent around him this year, it is going to be hard to evaluate how good he is anyway.
B A D idea, bad decision... Brissett is pressured on 47% of his dropbacks, worst in the league in 20 YEARS! This O-line is going to derail this "rebuild" before it starts, and it "should" have started with the O-line. Rebuilds are supposed to go from the inside out.Thoughts
Need another center. That's definitely not something I ever expected to read, but Lowe has been fine. I'd posit that the unit they rolled out there last week was pretty close to their best grouping.
Lowe / Jordan / Leverett / Onwenu / Jacobs
Onwenu replacing Robinson at guard helps a lot, although Leverett had his own problems in the middle. Jacobs was not significantly worse at RT than Onwenu has been, so they may as well keep that setup. Hopefully Wallace is healthy in 3-4 weeks and can come back as a depth piece. The only pieces that make sense to replace would be Sow for Jordan (though this may be minor, as Jordan has been solid) and perhaps Hudson for Leverett, if Hudson looks good. Eventually, Strange will be back and should be converted to center right away.
Yeah, I agree but I am not sure what the options are. Maybe the trade market is not too bad for centers? They aren't usually valued super high, but I can't think of many instances where a team was trading a center midseason. As far as free agents go, I think the best guy out there is former Jets center Connor McGovern? Which is not exactly great, but... probably better than Leverett's output this past week.Need another center.
If they think he is ready, I am all for it. If they are rushing his timeline because Brissett is a disaster, I think it is stupid.
Don't rush him so the Pats can win a few more games in a lost season. That is just silly.
But they feel he has gotten his footwork down, understands how to read defenses at the NFL enough, etc. then playing him will be worth it for his development.
Sitting him or playing him, my opinion is the same. The #1 priority this year is his development. Wins and losses are irrelevant.
Nope. He didn’t regress at all. He played like a backup all along. It took him longer than most to develop. He also regressed to the point that he was a back up for several years and was on four teams in three years.
Exactly. The position that held Parcells’ team “hostage” now has a grip on this team.Yeah, I agree but I am not sure what the options are. Maybe the trade market is not too bad for centers? More or less than 12 penalties by the offense?
Really? Darnold is a good example of playing early is the best thing for a young QB? Cuz it seems to me he picked up a lot of bad habits and only unlearned them and worked on his weaknesses as a back up on the bench. Then once he fixed his issues game time experience was much more valuable. He didn’t regress. He was what he was. By playing he worked through hus issues. The jets got impatient because they wanted to draft Zach Wilson.
He went to a terrible Carolina team, and won 4 of his last 6 starts.
Carolina had to have Bryce Young so he was a backup for a year. Not several years.
Players need to be exposed to their weaknesses to correct them, Darnold is a good example.
thisFar less.
Or did you mean the Pats offense?
It would be hard to hide it. They will need to ramp his reps in practice way up this week if he is starting, which would be noticed and reported on. They could've waited a couple more days though. Didn't necessarily need to report it... could simply have let the reporters squak about it on Thursday-ish after the Texans had already started doing some prep for Brissett.Stupid question here - why couldn't they act as if brissett was starting and then BAM.. Maye comes into the game on the 2nd play or something?
It was already a hard task for Maye, now they will be able to gameplan even better against him.
Should reverse that GIF...It just moved
He came in with bad habits. He was overdrafted.Really? Darnold is a good example of playing early is the best thing for a young QB? That's crazy.. What happened to this fanbase? A bunch of frightened children. We drafted the kid 3rd. Jacoby isn't good enough. Drake Maye has to play.If so Mayo should be the next HC let go.
Yeah, they leak it to Schefter. It would be hard to hide it. They will need to ramp his reps in practice way up this week if he is starting, which would be noticed and reported on. A lot of QBs are over drafted, it’s almost a pandemic of how short the NFL is on quality play from the position. I agree what separates the ok, from the good, from the great is how they handle pressure and adversity. We will never know for sure one way or the other but I firmly believe any player benefits from sitting, learning, and working on their issues without the pressure in starting. Once those issues are worked out then game experience is the best thing for them. Darnold got rushed into the starting lineup relying on those raw abilities and kept getting worse as Defenses learned his weaknesses. It wasn’t until he stopped starting, had the time to fix his weaknesses, THEN came back that the game experience was important and he looks like a decent QB again. Though to be fair having JJ certainly doesn’t hurt. I wonder what Darnold could have been if he had been drafted by a competent team that prioritized his development over looking good in the media. He came in with bad habits. He was overdrafted.
Playing exposed his weaknesses and got him to improve them.
Every qb doesn’t come in at the same point. Playing badly early doesn’t mean you developed bad habits, it means you haven’t played enough to cure them.
Some QBs just aren’t good and never cure them.
QBs are being drafted now based upon raw ability and putting up stats without ever playing under duress. How they play under duress is what separates them. They have to do it to overcome, some take longer than others, none overcome it without playing.
If they wanted him behind a healthy o-line he should have started week 1. This is the NFL. Perfect situations dont exist.B A D idea, bad decision... This past 3 seasons have been a slow motion train wreck, why stop it now I guess.
