You don't want to guess? Sometimes guessing is the funnest part.
Hmmm well, let me break it down.
I think the Pats and the Bills have the 2 best QBs in a wide open AFC.
Houston has a great D, Denver has a good D.
Jax is a pretty complete team, good on both sides of the ball.
If history tells us anything, it is much more likely than not that the best QBs are the ones who usually get to the SB.
So for me, it's between Maye and Allen.
Pats have a better overall roster imo, Bills and Allen have a lot of playoff experience, and Allen's playoff numbers are very very good.
If I had to pick today, one of those teams are winning the AFC.

Ah, I see the Titans are playing the refs today too.

You'd think they'd be less obvious about it, but nah.

What an absolute **** show slate of early games.
I'm watching Indy/Houston, but will switch it up if there is a compelling reason to do so.

Rain,

I was hoping you would post. A fully healthy 9ners team got the superbowl and got beat by Mahomes.. they haven't been back since.. at some point when does Shanny the offensive guru start to get questioned?

Of course he's a great coach but I mean that showing last night was atrocious just like the uniforms...
The 49ers basically have the Dak Prescott of NFL coaches.

Those are the worst HC's/QB's to have. Odds are you won't find anyone better. Yet, you know they are never quite good enough to perform at a high level and actually win it all.

When your defense holds Mahomes to 19 points (actually 12 because of a fumbled punt) in regulation, there are zero excuses not to get to 20 as an "offensive guru". When your defense gives up 13, it's inexcusable to not get two TD's. To not roll Purdy out or change things up.

I didn't like Shanahan's play calling in some spots like the 4th and 1 or 4th and 2, but he didn't have much to work with. Too many guys are taking games off like Pearsall who's the only WR that can at least force some intermediate attention. He plays one game and then he's mysteriously isn't playing the next.

Trent Williams was a massive loss. Also, the interior OL has been a weakness of the 49ers since the Jimmy G days and I only counted about 1-2 throws Purdy was able to step into. The rest of the throws were him throwing off his back foot or on the run as he was constantly chased out of the pocket.

Run blocking has been bad all season long. I think this is the wake up call that the 49ers finally address the OL this off-season.

Overall, I think this is Shanahan's best coaching season as I thought their roster coming into the season was awful. Then they suffered major injuries, yet still got 12 wins and had a chance at the #1 seed. Had they been fully healthy, they would've beat down the Seahawks last night.
Great insights. I guess I'm looking st the bevy of talent he's had over the years.. maybe I shouldn't say overrated. Maybe as you mentioned with all the guys they have missing all the time for some.. and the way they performed just puts the idea in my head about Shannahan..

Great points. As I mentioned they got to a superbowl and never returned. His teams have been healthy for the most part outside of the annual CMC injury. I know this season they loat some key pieces..but the way you summarize it makes perfect sense.

To answer your question, yes I think Shanahan comes up small in big games. It all started in the Super Bowl between the Pats and Falcons where that game should've been waaaay out of reach. Both Super Bowls with the 49ers he folded big time.

Not signing Tom Brady in 2020 will haunt him forever. SF would've had at least two Super Bowls and maybe even a back to back with him. Kyle has been known to be extremely stubborn and doesn't want the QB to overshadow his play calling which was why I think he passed on Tom Brady. But he really wasn't looking at the big picture. Tom would've brought Gronk to team up with Kittle which would've been nasty and AB to help Samuel, Aiyuk, Bourne, etc. Fournette maybe even signs with them as well. Absolutely awful management decision by the 49ers.

I think he would rather not win a SB than win a SB where Tom Brady gets most of the credit. Because Brady would call him out on dumb plays or just change things up on his own. With Brady, the first KC SB is over by the start of the 4th quarter. KC does not get a chance to get back into it. Every throw Jimmy missed is one Brady makes in his sleep.

He has a big ego and probably can't accept the idea of not being the focal point of a title. That's my opinion.

I wonder where he gets the stubbornness from... Apple doesn't fall to far from the tree eh..the senior ruined RG3 from stubbornness.. imagine that 49ers roster had TB12 joined his childhood team.. they absolutely would have won at least 2 superbowls.. in contrast to SF..this is why I'm so happy we have the total package of Vrabel as a HC and decision maker.. I believe Vrabel and Josh's relationship flourished over the course of the season.. Josh is like a defacto Assistant coach IMO..

Former players like JT O'Sullivan have said Shanahan has a reputation of controlling QB's. Kyle believes his offense will beat any defense and doesn't need a Tom Brady or star QB. However, he did finally cave as they were ready to pull the trigger trading for Matt Stafford, but he chose the LA Rams.

Mike Shanahan completely ruined RGIII's career.
