Safe, conservative draft picks

Won't be able to trade down much and still have your choice at OT. Once the first one falls, the rest will fall like dominos. Really wouldn't want to trade down below nine, imo.

I guess it depends on who they want. If it's Campbell or Membou, best to stick and pick. If it's Conerly, Banks or Simmons, they can probably drop into the teens, but that's risky. Ersery, maybe into the late teens or even early 20s. Any later than that, they are talking about Grant, Ozzy or one of the other guys in R2.

Membou and Campbell are the only ones who would go in the top 9.
Simmons and Banks will both be there at 15.

To me, if Campbell is the pick at 4, the ultimate safe pick is Donovan Jackson at 38. Pro bowl upside at LG if Campbell can hack LT, and he has proven he’s capable of competent play at LT if Campbell has to slide inside.

at this point there is no way they draft anyone outside of campbell or membou. if campbell can be a po bowl LG thats ok too..if we get kolton miller then the trade downs get interesting.

Anybody else hearing rumors of the pats and Pittsburgh having a trade in place if qb sanders is available at 4?????

Hearing the opposite that their meeting w/Sanders didn’t go so well. Who knows with it being lying season.

Not sure Pitt has the ammo to move up. With no 2nd rounder I’m curious what sort of trade they can pull off.

We may see a run on OTs.

Seems like the majority of teams could use another one.

What are the odds of Vrabel wanting Simmons?

I hear rumors of Sanders dropping out of the 1st round.

Is that why Sanders is skipping the draft?

Definitely hadn’t heard this. I’d be shocked if it actually happened. Where did you hear it?

That's the question, isn't it? Campbell, an outstanding SEC LT with short arms, vs Membou, an outstanding SEC RT with slightly (less than an inch) longer arms, when the need is at LT.
There should still be some good offensive tackles available in the second round, especially since the first round guys aren’t definitively first round talents.

They should have taken Patrick Paul last year in the second then they might have a LT already.

I like Logan Brown, Dalton Cooper and Hollin Pierce later in the draft if they decide to skip LT in the first round.

I like Brown too. No sacks allowed all season on a mediocre OL. Pierce looks like a project, but I’d take a flyer on him. Both are massive.

Then again I’d draft at least two tackles, maybe even three if were counting a guy like Jackson or Mbow.

Yeah, if they didn’t go OT with the 4th overall, I’d likely draft 3 of them in the middle and later rounds.

As far as Pierce goes it’s hard to tell because he didn’t work out, but “too big to fail” is fairly often a thing.

I have not, and I kinda doubt NE wants to drop to 21, even more so because PIT doesn't have a second-rounder to trade.

Over on ESPN, Field Yates suggested a trade (i.e., he was asked for an example of "a trade that could make sense"):

NE gets 1.29 (taking an OT or WR) and 4.128
WAS gets 2.37 and 3.77

It is hard to screwup when you are picking early in each round, but the Patriots managed to do it last year.

This year, if they simply make the obvious, safe choices, they should do well. No tricks or surprises (Tim Tebow anyone?) or crappy trades (Slo-Poke).

Keep it simple:

Round One: Will Campbell. The arm reach issues is ridiculous; Campbell will protect Drake's blind side for years to come and become a road grader on running plays.

Round Two: A reasonable WR such as Jalen Royals or Tre Harris or maybe a tradeup for Egbuka

Round Three: A big galoot at Center or a TE that can block

Round Four: A TE who can block or a big galoot at Center

That would be a really nice draft haul if they can avoid the BB-style or Josh-style zingers.
Did you just refer to Jalynn Polk as slow and then suggest we take someone even slower? While I don't think Harris would be a terrible pick but if your going to talk **** on one guy for something then keep that energy all around.

Polk would have been a fine pick, but through no fault of his own, he was drafted too high. A 4th-round pick or so was where he belonged; if the Patriots wanted him so badly, they could have waited and got him much later than the second round.. The other part of this monumental screwup would not taking McConkey and trading down. Please, Patriots no more tricks; just take the obvious players.

I agree; Harris is too slow for my taste, but there should a quick, agile WR early in the Second

BPA is different for different teams.

To me, the strategy means picking one of the top 3 or so players on our board, one that it valued by others.

Some would have CAMPBELL as their BPA. Some would have Jeanty, Graham or even Membou.

Why shouldn't we pick one of the BPA's considering that the player also fills a position of need?
