Sup, what stats are they relying on to come to that number? Obviously my own observations are biased but I would not rate the Patriots a top 5 run blocking team but I would rate them top 5 pass blocking team (minus the first half of the Dallas game they have been VERY good by my biased observation).
It appears as though they are using their own analytic formulas to determine certain values for runs of certain distances, negative rushes, percentage of dropbacks, sacks allowed, etc. If you click on the link they'll explain their thinking much better than I ever could
Basically, similar to PFF (or ESPN), but they don't claim that James White has been the most effective RB in the entire NFL, or that Johnny Manziel is a more effective QB than Tom Brady. In other words, most here feel as though Football Outsiders is a very reputable source, and while they may have their own formulas like the other sites, they seem to be more in line with reality. Who knows, though? Statistics can lie just like anything else.
