Rumored trade offers for Gronk

I think Brady is relevant to this discussion........if the minds at the top believe Brady is going to hang 'em up after this season, then now would be a good time to move Gronk and begin a rebuild

with the current QB situation, remove Brady, and Gronk is a waste of money

I still find it dubious that Brady turned into a pumpkin when Jimmy G was moved......there would have been much more dignity in the whole situation if Brady hung 'em up after last season and we proceeded with Jimmy G, but I am willing to be at that point, the ego that is Brady was too big to allow the Pats to move on seamlessly

Kontra, the guy has not been happy here for a while. I remember his family butting heads with NE regarding his injuries a few years ago.
And everything has been seemingly fine since then. He’s no different than any other premier player who is unhappy with his contract situation. Stating that the amount of years on his contract will tell you when Brady hangs it up may be correct, but it’s still just guess work at this point.

Belichick traded Drew Bledsoe to Buffalo.

Bledsoe was not a generational talent at his position.

Enough with the drama. It boils down to dollars allocated per position group, value of extending a deal to gain flexibility, and market value of a player. The cap went up substantially since Gronk signed his deal in 2012. They cleared cap space for this after the season.

Gronk is 29 and healthy coming into camp. There's only $4 million left in dead money on his deal. He's due for an extension.

Gonk is a FA in 2020. 2 more years on his deal and 2019 is when you extend him.

Publicly airing dirty laundry and bellyaching about your money is taboo on the BB Patriots. Randy Moss was warned numerous times and refused to heed the warning and was subsequently shipped out of town.

The extension will be a mistake and similar to a NYJ Revis like contract in terms of siging a player on the downside. Gonk is 30 next may with a long injury history.

Maybe, but if you consider the following:

-Gronk’s family upset with the Patriots over handling of his injuries, including rushing him back from at least one;

-Gronk getting called out by BB in front of his team for his use of Alex Guerrero;

-Gronk telling Amendola to be “free and happy” in a tweet; and

-Rumors of NE shopping Gronk around,

it doesn’t bode well for Gronk being here long term, whether NE trades him or he leaves on his own.

I acknowledge all of that. I think some of those thing he brought on to himself (family *****ing)

Which injury did they force him back from? The arm? Was that confirmed? I believe differently.

I agree with the first paragraph, but not the second.

Why is it BS for Brady to decide whether he want to play another year or two? He can leave on his own terms whenever he wants.
=======
As an aside, I would counsel against an extension for Brady, unless BRADY insists. Give him (and Gronk) more money for 2018 and 2019, but not after that.

My gut says that Brady would be fine with a 2019 victory tour of the league with a team that is competitive for another ring.

The 2nd part is spot on too.

Dont start with "Well, on 2nd thought, I may not play after all" when Jimmy was shipped out of town. Say youre playing this season and follow through.

But Brady is playing this season. That should be enough for you to not call him a pumpkin over Jimmy G. We don't know how many more TB12 will play but you seem to think that if it was only going to be just this one then TB12 should have just let Jimmy have it now. How does that make any sense for TB12?

simple.....the Brady that is here now is not as enthusiastic as the one a year ago (review peter king interview from a year ago and compare it to the oprah interview) his heart is not as into it

and based on the apparent friction between coach and player, I don't see it going beyond this year

what happened to moving on a year too soon better than a year too late? that math still works including the current situation

walking away in one piece makes perfect sense for a 41 year old QB

beyond that, the best way to make sure brady moves on and get past this anchor dragging along is to move gronk for future resources and plan for the future

A lot of BS and mis-truths in there but I do realize who I'm arguing with.

Bottom line when the team traded Jimmy regardless of what TB12 said about playing until 45 they knew they were doing it and keeping a +40 QB and nothing was guaranteed. By Brady playing this year I think he's been more than fair enough to the team regarding that decision from 6 months ago. The team took the gamble on a guy who said he wants to play until 45 if he doesn't make it until 45 is that really TBs fault?

I obviously hope and think TB will be around for more than just this one season so I think they made the right choice but if this winds up being TBs last year then maybe the gamble was wrong but I can live with that too. The team made their choice and they made it a half a year ago it's not fair to keep putting that on TBs shoulders he's allowed to re-analyze his career path as often as he wants.

No question. His family complaints, him being sensitive to BB’s criticism and the Amendola tweet are on him. But together they show signs of an unhappy player.

I think his family (ie- Daddy Gronk) complained after the first arm injury (on the extra point attempt against Indy) that patriots doctors rushed him back. It may have been Dr. Thomas Gill in charge of the medical staff at the time.

I'm really not sure what people expect/ed of TB12. BB and Kraft and all fans obviously want the best of both worlds we want Tom as long as he's still good and then we want a young gun like we had with Jimmy just waiting to instantly take over. But how does TB really play into that all he is concerned with is being in the best place for him for however long he plans on playing. He's here for this year so we didn't get rid of Jimmy for nothing and every year after this one of elite TB play makes the deal more and more right for the team but it's already right for TB12.

The transfer of a HOF QB is delicate. See Farve. See Montana.

Brady has to leave on his own. Its the only way. Thats why his wishy washy will I play or not is BS.
What whishy washy?

I would buy the rumor if it was just the 49ers mentioned but no way am I believing that Belichick would be stupid enough to trade him to a team in the conference.
BB traded Seymour to Oakland, so he’s done this before.

Lawyer Milloy. Didnt he ask for Milloy to take a paycut and he refused? Moss of course. Jamie Collins wanted a payday and freelanced his way out of town. Welka? Heard he was thorn in BBs side. Dont know if its true.

BB told Gronk that he could be traded. Gronk sold his moto cross bike and has been on his best behavior since.

If they wanted to trade Gronk, keeping Jimmy G and letting Brady go/trade him would have been the way to go. Brady only has a few years left, so I don't understand why you would trade away the GOAT tight end in football and Brady's most dangerous weapon when he only has 3 years left at most, maybe 4.

If you wanted to start rebuilding the roster for the future, then letting Jimmy G go was a huge mistake. They went with the aged GOAT at QB, you need to do everything you can to ensure he has the best chance possible at winning a championship NOW, not 5+ years from now because he wont be around 5+ years from now

The only way it would remotely make sense is if they got a specific player(s) in return, but again... why trade a known commodity that helps your 41 year old QB, who also happens to be on a very team friendly deal and is the GOAT at his position for another team's player(s)?

How does your gut make something up and think Brady would be fine with it despite him
Saying otherwise?

I just want to understand.

You think that brady is so committed to playing beyond 2019, that it isn't possible that 2019 will be his last year, and he would have a league tour, having one last shot with the patriots?

I think that he has said many times he will play as long as he can play at a high level and is motivated.
I don’t ynderstand how that adds up to a “tour” which would mean he announces his retirement before the season starts. I also see nothing in Tom Brady that would make me think he would want a tour.
