I get that it is 'tense' and awkward but I actually don't think it is heartless at all.

What are the players who get cut today going to have been doing before 4pm? Not much.

This gives them a further chance to impress our staff as to why they might be worth a future second look and to learn something, anything, that might help them standout at the next job.

People calling this heartless? Bill Belichick and his staff are still using coaching time on players who won't be with the team.
