Re: Roethlisberger looks normal, talking normal at ESPYs
If we can for a moment put aside the troll-baiting and Marky Mark disgressions to return to a discussion about Ben R., here are my observations:
1. Physically, he looked remarkably good for a man whose face had impacted a windshield at 35 MPH.
2. However, was it just me or did his nose look a little misshapen? It didn't look that way before, at least to me. Also, as others have mentioned his face appeared a bit puffy.
3. Still, I expected to see contusions and bruises, scars and scabs and I saw none of that. He is one lucky, lucky fellow.
4. I will not be drawn into a debate about his quarterbacking skills, nor a comparision between him and Brady. But here is what I observe: he is still one foolish young guy. To wit:
a. It is obvious from his remarks to Jim Rome that even in the immediate aftermath of his nearly miraculous escape from death, (in his own words he was within minutes of death when the medics got to him), he will continue to ride a motorcycle. His one concession is that he will (he says) wear a helmet. This shows me a lack of judgement. Don't push your luck, Ben.
b. What says even more about his maturity (or character) is this: despite the police reports that he was operating the motorcycle without a valid license (he had only a learner's permit, which had expired), and the fact that a helmet IS required under PA law when operating a motorcycle with a learner's permit, he still said to Rome that he wasn't legally required to wear a helmet. (I really wish Rome had asked him a followup about the facts I just cited.) This shows a continued lack of acceptance of responsibility for his lack of judgement.
