Saw this on the Indy Star message board and thought it merited a mention, but not a new thread. The poster is a long timer named Driven.

"For what it's worth, a friend of mine went to the ESPY's last night and seen Harrison at an after party. My friend asked how the knee was doing, Harrison said that he thinks he will be ready for the season opener, but he thinks the Pats would more likely wait till after the bye."

Precisely my prediction. Looks like Rodney is a potential PUP.

The tough part is if he goes on the Physically unable to play list he won't be allowed to practice with the team till week 6 ala what Bruschi did last year. Then he'll have three weeks to decide whether to play. With rodney luckily it wont be learning the system, rather just being able to play his role. 6 weeks will be huge in rehabbing the knee so that it wont swell up after games. A common occurance is 1 week of good play followed by a down week to battle the swelling. I think if he starts week 1 it will be a problem with him maybe having to skip a game here and there because of the swelling. That BTW is also my main concern with daunte. I really think he'll start week 1, but i'm unsure of whether he'll be able to keep up his workload....

That ties back to my earlier observation that it's a lot easier to rotate safeties than QB's, by series, or quarter, or game. Remember that sage caveat that if you have more than one starting QB, you probably don't have a starting QB. And if Daunte and Joey start playing musical chairs their egos and the mentality to outgun each other to prove themselves not just to Saban but to the wider NFL audience could easily be an entire teams unraveling. Harrington and Daunte both have personal professional agendas that could trump Saban's simple desire to win. Neither has been able to harness their talent with any consistency in the past, particularly when they were under increased scrutiny or criticism.

I think he is only PUP if he is very far off. PUP allows you to come back week 6 to week 10 AND you cannot attend a single practice in training camp.

If he is potentially ready by week 6 or 7, he would be practicing at some level in camp, and on the active roster as a game day inactive until he can play rather than being unable to do anything on the practice field until week 6.

Very simple, our 53 man would be 52 plus Rodney. At the start of the season an extra DB would be part of that 52, and when Rodney is ready to play, that guy will be cut, and another player (probably OL) will be brought up from the practice squad.

All we will be doing is having the last guy on the end of the bench filling in for Rodney rather than being an inactive at a different position.

Joey has never had the correct talent around him. that being said,he has still underperformed. I'm just saying the Lions could have helped him out a lot better than they did.

Generally i would agree with your point about rotating in safties and QB's except that when rodney went down the patriots secondary wen't down with him. Still rotating in a QB generally is MUCH harder that rotating in a DB...Good point.

BB really values his roster spots. And if rodney's not ready all that extra practice with the team could possibly set him back. Bottom line rodney will have to be cleared by the Doc's and then he'll prolly do a private workout for BB to decide whether to sit him for 6 or to keep him on the roster but inactive.

At this point it's all specualtion. Even though i'm a fin fan i believe BB will make the right decision.

BTW..How is Guss Scott doing? I know he got hurt, but he's one of my favorite players from UF, and even had him fall on me once on the sidelines after he hit a guy so hard he almost knocked himself out(2002). He could barely see, but he was nice enough to say sorry...

Three first round recievers, one star running back, and an average line is enough for most QB's.

Except for the fact that the WR's had no one to learn from or emulate, The offensive line played sub-par to their ability, the coaches tried to change all of Joey's mechanics and the star running back also did not play well last year. (He was on my fantasy team)...but yeah. Most Qb's would do at least ok with that.

Of pahleese....if you're not part of the solution (Brady - Bledsoe toadies had been making that same pathetic excuse for him for two or three seasons too) you're part of the problem. Joey is self absorbed, an excuse maker and even his teamates lost all sympathy for him. Martz wanted nothing to do with him - he preferred to take his chances with Kitna.

Rodney went down unexpectedly, and on the heels of not having Tedy or Ted on the field and with Poole inexplicabley MIA once again. And shortly thereafter Richard went out and we were left with a very young defense dealing with the suckitude of Duane Starks to boot. Once they located Hawkins and inserted him in that spot, and Tedy and Richard returned to the fray, and Starks was replaced by a talented but raw rookie - the D including
that secondary played much better.

If Rodney doesn't start week 1 it won't be a shock to anyone this season, least of all Belichick. He's covered his bases and will have 10 weeks of camp and pre season to get that unit to where it needs to be. And that's without any last minute additions - one of which I believe is a better than 50-50 bet.
