Player Signing Report: Patriots Acquire DeVante Parker from Dolphins

Pats had $4.2M in cap space before this trade. There's got to be another trade coming. Agholor trade frees up $10M. Maybe Agholor + 2022 5th (Bucs) for other team's 2023 3rd, so Parker is truly free plus cap relief.

Chiefs would be a good spot for Agholor, even after the MVS signing. He gives them another deep threat but also has produced from the slot, they have plenty of cap space and draft picks and he is off of the books after this year.

This actually makes a lot of sense and I hate it.
We Better get some fast receivers.

Then I hate This trade.
At least Nelson can take the top off a defense.
Why? Parker is better, cheaper, they're about the same age and we get an extra year.

Maybe this will increase the likelihood that Gilmore will re-sign with the Pats, given that his daddy now plays for them.
Gonna have free up some more cap room for that. Still wanted to add Gilmore and Flowers as well. Still could happen with some serious maneuvering.

We do get a 5th here though. Hit on that pick and it’ll feel like we hardly gave up anything.
A 2023 is worth a 2022 4th.

We moved down from the equivalent of a 2022 4th to a 2022 5th.

If folks don't think that moving down about 30 spots is the equivalent to a late round pick, that is their problem.

I’m pretty sure this precludes the Pats from signing Beckham, or drafting a WR in the first round. If my math is right, trading for Parker puts the Pats over the cap at this moment.
and a WR at 21 somehow cost more than another position at 21?

500 yards in 10 games isn’t bad though. Still seems like at least an 800-900 yard guy when healthy.

Also, getting a 5th this year is a nice added bonus. Pick 158. Add an extra offensive linemen with that pick for cheap.

He's better than what we have. By a long mile. I'm not complaining about this trade.

A 2023 3rd for two years of Parker on an affordable contract and a 5th seems like a fairly reasonable price. Certainly with the tyREEK signing the Fins weren't dealing from a position of high leverage which helps explain why they'd trade within the division. Barring anything unforeseen it would seem like a win-win trade if it weren't in division.

Parker should hopefully be counted on for half a season. 15 injuries in 5 years is a lot.

I don't understand why folks think this means that we are trading Agholor.

Because of the injuries, picking one, I'd rather have Agholor.

Thankfully, we have both, in addition to Bourne, Myers and a draft choice.

Very curious he mentions Kraft. That's weird, what did he do?

Love it. I wanted someone that was cheap and at least at Bourne's level, preferably higher, to put on the other side. This move appears to fit the bill. Offense is mostly set as-is for 2022 (pending one oline spot and if/when something is done regarding Agholor and Harry).

A Mac year 2 leap + a now proper pass catching corps + a couple of strong draft picks on defense, and this team could be a lot stronger than people think.

Agree. A third or fourth round quick slot guy would be good too.

We will need to free up cap room for this trade, plus more for anyone else. And then we need to free up over $10M for various expenses after the draft.

Perimeter WR but not really a deep threat or speed guy to replace Agholor. Seems similar to Meyers. Limited by injuries the last 2 years.

He's basically a much better version of N'Keal Harry. He's a big perimeter WR who doesn't get a lot of separation in man to man coverage but uses his body well to make contested catches, which is something Harry simply can't do. In zone he'll find the soft spot and give Mac a good option.

Like you said, not a speedster and won't be taking the top off the D. He's another piece to the puzzle but not a number 1 guy. I hope we draft a WR who is a great route runner and can get separation to give Mac some easier throws.

Looks like our trainers are going to be really busy next season!

@ashley1992 this ^^^^ guy can't stop sh!tting on every thread.
