Player Signing Report: Patriots Acquire DeVante Parker from Dolphins

Getting Parker is nice. This WR group needs more established bodies. I’m not trying to be a sour **** here, but Parker seems like the kinda guy that is gonna drive this fan base nuts. The epitome of hot and cold. Not to mention he isn’t exactly a spring chicken. Let’s hope the cold weather doesn’t lead to him not seeing the field when this team needs him most. What this means for Ag and Harry, idk. But, it does give Bill and Co. a lot of options heading into the draft, which is what I think all of this really about anyways.

We do get a 5th here though. Hit on that pick and it’ll feel like we hardly gave up anything.
Oh, I agree. I think overall it is a trade worth making and has the chance for some serious upside. I just don’t like the way Lazar painted it.

Parker is signed through 2023:
2022: 5.65m base salary, up to 500k roster bonus, 100k workout bonus. Looks like cap hit is about $6.05m
2023: $5.7m base, up to 500k roster bonus, 100k workout bonus. If plays all 17 games in 2022, cap hit is $6.3m.

We barely have enough cap for this in 2022. Something else is coming - a restructuring, extension, a trade or a release.

Edit —checked the expert’s Twitter account, he came up with the same 2022 number. I feel like a good student who earned an A!

I’m pretty sure this precludes the Pats from signing Beckham, or drafting a WR in the first round. If my math is right, trading for Parker puts the Pats over the cap at this moment.

JC Jackson comp will give us a 3rd round pick next year anyway, so it's all good.

This move means Agholor is definitely getting traded, cut or forced to take a pay cut. Can't have what is now your 3rd/4th receiver having a $15m cap hit. I'd obviously also look to dump Harry for anything I could get. Would be happy with a 6th or maybe a player for player swap.
We’ll be over the cap once this trade goes through, which isn’t allowed. So unless they restructure or extend someone, this seems like the logical move. Especially knowing they only have Agholor for one season while they have Parker for 2.

Swing and a miss by Lazar. Giving up a 3rd is giving up a 3rd. There is no getting for free. Nice spin on his part though.
Yeah, I agree this a bad take. The ultimate point is that we still have 7 picks next year because we have another 3rd rounder coming. But it ain’t free because we could have had two 3rd rounders in 2023 instead.

Wonder if he gets to wear #11.

2023 3rd is like a 2022 4th in terms of relative value to teams. Good deal for both teams. Phins didn’t need Parker and cost is reasonable for the Pats.

I agree that the Pats seem likely to deal Agholor now. They need to open up cap space, unless they have already agreed to an extension with Parker, to reduce his 2022 cap number.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the trade, and I like Parker. Good size and hands. I wish they would’ve found a way to dump Harry in the trade. Parker’s best year was in 2019. Hopefully he can stay healthy and give us a few good years.
Harry is irrelaevant. If we want to dump him, someone will accept him for a conditional 6th or 7th.

Love it. I wanted someone that was cheap and at least at Bourne's level, preferably higher, to put on the other side. This move appears to fit the bill. Offense is mostly set as-is for 2022 (pending one oline spot and if/when something is done regarding Agholor and Harry).

A Mac year 2 leap + a now proper pass catching corps + a couple of strong draft picks on defense, and this team could be a lot stronger than people think.

I wonder what we could get for him? Would be nice to land another 5th for him

I like the trade. Harry is essentially worthless so getting a good possession receiver/ big target will help Jones. Now go get a #1 in the draft and put the rest of the off-season into making the defense faster.

Let’s get OBJ and we can be happy with this pass catching set

Pats had $4.2M in cap space before this trade. There's got to be another trade coming. Agholor trade frees up $10M. Maybe Agholor + 2022 5th (Bucs) for other team's 2023 3rd, so Parker is truly free plus cap relief.

I don't think they'll sign Beckham, he'll cost to much for the type of production he'll deliver. I still think if the right player is there the Pats could take a WR in their first few picks. Parker is a nice pickup but he is not a #1 WR at this point. A long line of injuries over the years. I still think we need to target WR in the draft.

Then I hate This trade.
At least Nelson can take the top off a defense.

Perimeter WR but not really a deep threat or speed guy to replace Agholor. Seems similar to Meyers. Limited by injuries the last 2 years.

nice pick up by us... send him over to tb12/foxboro and get working on his pliability, eliminate those soft tissue/muscle injuries...
