Player Signing Report: Patriots Acquire DeVante Parker from Dolphins

Why even bring this up? Not only has he not done anything for the Pats, many Team Bill posters didn’t see the need to improve the group. But now that he makes a move, he’s a genius!
He's just trying to ruin yet another thread w/ his endless crappy trolling. Don't take his bait.

I hope we trade the compensatory pick and not our original pick provided we are able to word it that way.
It is a trick to sign a deal that includes a 3rd round pick that hasn't yet been awarded.

While I agree with you (no need for the post), maybe he recognizes that every time something the fans on here are against, the Bill Haters are on the doorstep.

I’m with @MAC10 : the Bill haters are everywhere (except this thread).
You're obviously clueless at what he is doing.

Everyone wanted to improve the WR corps...
Eh. There were a lot of people on here that we’re fine with this group.

The main excuse was “execution”.

Belichick is a genius. This is him at the owner's meeting last week...

Bill: Hey Mike, now that we're friends, do you want to make a trade within the division?

McDaniel: Sure Bill, anything.

Bill: we need WRs, so how about Parker for a 3rd?

McDaniel: Sure thing bud!

The more I think about this trade. The more I don't like it. They gave up too much for a player that's constantly injured. I think pats fans are so desperate for a wide out. And the lack of free agent moves have people overly excited about this move.
They dropped down a round, essentially. How is that giving up too much?

And if the Patriots finish better than the Dolphins this year, it actually means they drop down less than one round.

My initial thoughts on the trade was GREAT job Bill the GM. But the as I think on it, the reality is a little bit murky.

On the plus side he is an established veteran who DEFINITELY upgrades our WR room. I think the trade compensation was very good. And I think his cap impact is better than I thought. Around $6MM/yr for his talent is a real bargain in a market where top receivers are getting THREE times that amount.

On the negative side is his troubling injury history. I think that history is the reason we got him at what seems to be a discounted price AND within the division. If it's true that he's had 17 hamstring injuries over the course of his 8 years with Miami, then it's safe to assume that it will be an issue with him here

As to Agular. I believe we NEED to keep him, even at the $15MM cap number he's playing under. He is a different kind of receiver than Parker and is actually a perfect compliment to him. Now when we go to 3 wide, Agular/Bourne/Parker would make up a decent front line. It also drops Bourne into the slot spot which I believe is his best position. Meyers now slips back into the 4th receiver mode which adds quality depth that we haven't had in years.

I agree that Harry needs to go as we look to add a rookie in one of our top 3 choices. Frankly even I have given up to Harry being able to become a productive WR here. Him leaving would be a benefit to both parties. Wilkerson or the kid who Ernie Adams picked as he went out the door, who is supposed to be a raw burner, if I recall, fill out the room

When the Dolphins announced the Hill trade, I immediately thought that Parker was going to be moved, but I never thought it would be HERE.
You like Agholor over Myers on the field? Is that just more due to scheme fit?

Don’t get too excited yet. Parker was considered a bust before his only good season. He’s been on the decline since. The dweeb in Miami got a 3rd for a guy he won’t use.

Was the 13th overall pick in 2015. 4.45s 40, i.e. almost as fast as Agholor.

I’m pretty sure this precludes the Pats from signing Beckham, or drafting a WR in the first round. If my math is right, trading for Parker puts the Pats over the cap at this moment.

This move - as most moves - does not preclude anything.
They will add 3-4 more WRs. Could be OBJ (after Draft), 1st rounder or just SFA, UDFA.. Depending on opportunity and evaluation.
Team can not be over the cap so another cap move will be made before this trade is processed.
There are 0 guarantees on DvP contract atm so it is probable the contract will be redone, possibly before trade processed.
Cutting Harry creates 2M cap (not counting 51 rule in both cases).

Very nice that Parker wanted the trade.

Every player without guaranteed money on the contract wants the trade. Was same with Mason.

He's had a couple good seasons, although only 1 season over 1000 yards. In 2020, he had nearly 800 yards and 4 TDs and that's with Tua/Fitzpatrick. No one thinks he's going to become a elite WR in our offense, but he's very good.

Great Trade, they get Parker at a very reasonable salary for two years for what amounts to a 4th round pick. He instantly becomes thier best WR.

Like the move a lot if he’s healthy. Which he hasn’t been very often lately. There’s a reason why the Dolphins were happy to trade him in the division.

Will he even play in week 1?

Shocked the Dolphins would trade him within the division. That’s my only fear here - is there something we don’t know and everyone else does? Takes a bit of the edge off having to worry about all 3 of Hill, Waddle and Parker. The remaining 2 will be tough enough, but all 3 would have been rough.
Maybe but even so the gamble is low. We’re essentially getting a 3rd next year anyway with JC leaving.

Wow I can't believe this one for several reasons:

- It's an intra-division trade
- The trade compensation seems exceptionally low for a cheap contract (relative to the position) with 2 years left
- Parker seems like a perfect fit for a QB like Mac who throws an accurate ball

Super pleased with it. Perhaps Agholor is moved to create space but I personally hope they keep him another year. It's only $5M saved to release him, so unless you get a good trade return to also gain $10M in cap space via trade, he's worth the money to keep as your deep option.

I still think they should draft at least one WR too. Interestingly the Pats still don't have any of their starting WRs signed past 2023 even with this move.

It’s certainly better than nothing, but a WR needs to be taken no later than day 2.
WR is not a Huge need now but gives us some flexibility on the grop of guys we plan to choose from. I would love one of the Bama Boys - Pickens - Bell - Dotson or Skyy Moore in the Second.

Interesting that even though injured a lot last year, he was more productive than alhohor and half his aav. Algohor 22m for 2 years. This guy 11mm total for this year and next.

Shows you how bad the algohor signing was. Although not as bad as the jonnu smith signing.
