People who haven't actually paid attention to White think he's "fine". People who've paid attention know that he needs a lot of improvement just to get close to "fine".
The knock on White is that he is too easy to tackle. I think he has shown more elusiveness this preseason. Playing with Lewis is a great opportunity to learn about the value of making the first guy miss. I specifically paid attention to that factor last game.

Baffled by the lack of respect for James White in Patriot nation. How many more positive plays does the guy have to make to earn a little respect around here.

everytime this guy gets a little space with the ball in his hands, good things happen and yet neither the coaching staff nor the fans are willing to give him a true shot.

Is he Marshall Faulk? No, but he's proven to be an effective pass catching back which is all we need him to be. Just give him the reps he deserves, stop wasting them on Blount and Bolden. Its not like we're an effective run first team anyway.

lewis 2nd half of season> lewis 1st half

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'd prefer Lewis the first half of the season. Super Bowls aren't what they used to be. Rather put up big stats early in the season.

Personally I'm pretty much done with Belichick. When's the last time we won the offseason? 2007?

This dude is just coasting.

Controversial statement of the day:

If you had a 3rd and 20 and could throw a screen pass to Lewis or White, who do you choose?

Me: White

I'd definitely pick Dion Lewis but James White is pretty good himself.

I guess because he isn't very good at breaking tackles and being a runner. Ya know like most of our RB's. He has made a bunch of big plays since last season and is a solid blocker.

I'm a James White supporter myself...he was one of those few bright spots on offense in the second half of last season after we'd lost Edelman and Lewis. Fortunately for us he stepped up at the right time because Bolden wouldn't have been near a solid enough fill in as a receiving back.

White racked up 40 catches and 400 yards, the vast majority of which was in the second half of last season. If he had played all year he might have had upwards of 60-70 catches which is pretty impressive if you ask me.

Never once understood the idea that he'd be cut.

Lewis needs to have a second surgery, and he'll apparently need 8-10 weeks on the shelf before being ready. Knowing that, I might still pick Lewis over White for week 1.

With the bum wheel? Not sure about that.

At peak performance it's a bit closer.

8-10 to return to game action or to return to football workouts? If it's the latter he's pretty much done for the season.

I never expected Lewis to be much of a factor this year, not like last year at least, few players come back from an ACL surgery playing at the same level they were at the time of the injury, and the guy has a history that says he can't stay healthy. I'm not very optimistic here, I think I'm entering in that "whatever he gives us from now on is greedy" mentality. Fortunately James White can catch the ball but he can't run 5 yards, it's a much worse Vereen.

Might be time for a return of Ray Rice.....guy has atoned for his sins....and those sins were bad. But he has done a lot in the area of domestic violence....and everyone deserves one more chance!!!!

Makes PUP more likely IMO. With Brown not practicing this could ratchet up the need for another RB.

Has everyone forgotten white's performance in playoffs last season?! Maybe he has grown over offseason but he killed us!

QUOTE="Joey007, post: 4696805, member: 20655"]We need another RB now, but I think White will fill in the receiving back role just fine.

Dion was phenomenal last year, but with all of our new weapons we've added, he was more of a luxury if anything in terms of what he did as a receiver.[/QUOTE]

Honestly hoping For Karlos or a trade for Charles or at least a Kniles Davis or something.

Now he's hiring his sons, he just doesn't care.

I like Dion more than White, but White is actually pretty great compared, at least, to how this board treats him. We're lucky to have a guy like that as our 2nd option.

This forum seems pretty unreasonable in regards to James White. Poor when given the hand off (can't tell if he's improved yet), but pretty damn good when utilized as a receiver. And that is very important for our offense.

I'd be feeling pretty panicky if we got the news that Dion is out of commission and James White wasn't on the roster. He helps soften the blow till Lewis returns.
