Two points worth noting:
  • Eligible for the minimum salary benefit.
  • An oft-overlooked point on the "guaranteed salary" thing.
A little more detail on the latter: strictly speaking, veteran salaries are not, in fact, guaranteed on Week 1. What actually happens is that a separate mechanism, called termination pay, comes into play. That basically says that a veteran player on a Week 1 roster can demand his salary for the remainder of the season if he is waived.

The trick, though, is that that benefit can only be utilized once in a player's career. Since Flynn already used that benefit, the Patriots will only owe him for weeks he's on the roster, and can cut him at any point.

This is a great contract for the patriots. Belichick will have lots of options. In any case, he is inexpensive insurance.

Very cheap, I though he was going to make at least 4 Mi.

Matt Flynn chose the wrong year to claim termination pay. In 2013 he was on a roster for 15 weeks and his Raiders salary was fully guaranteed so he got paid for 17 weeks for them even though he was released by by the Raiders after 5 weeks.

Termination pay if on roster Week 1=100$ of salary
Termination pay if added to roster after Week 1=25% of salary.

Wow he's a lot cheaper than I expected. Awesome!

Terms: 1 year, $950,000
Signing bonus: $20,000
Base salary: $870,000
Roster bonus: $60,000
Salary cap charge: $665,000
Per game cost ~$54,375
