Until I hear otherwise, I am considering it as dead money for the 2015 season for the following reasons

1.) Unclear if he retired.
2.) If he did retire, no way of knowing if the Patriots ask for the money back. Retired players are required to pay unearned signing bonus if asked.
3.) My interpretation of CBA leans toward if Pats ask Wayne for the money and he did pay them back that the Pats will get a credit on the 2016 cap for the returned signing bonus.
 
I get the feeling he paid it back, probably as a condition of his freedom. Patriots could have held him to his contract like with Waters, but negotiated to get that money back for 2016 and then sent out a nice press release flattering Wayne instead of calling him a quitter because he couldn't handle the workload.
