RE: Tom Brady and working out during suspension

BTW - those fearing that Brady won't get to see game film should rest easy. I think Brady might be able to get a loan from his wife, so he afford to pay for the Premium package from the NFLN that allows you access to full coaches tapes from every team, in the league on the Wednesday after the game. He also may find a few bucks to pay for some people to break them down for him. So while he is watching Cleveland tape, Tom can have some guys breaking down the AFC East teams as well as any other future Pats opponents, and do it all perfectly legally. (BTW- if anyone knows Tom personally, I'd be willing to help him out for free.)

As for the physically working out, there is no rules against him working out with guys like, Welker, Moss, and Brown or ANYONE else who is a FA on Sept 5th. Despite the fact that Welker is still a member of the NFLPA, doesn't mean that the NFL can tell him or any other player who is not currently under contract who they can work out with.

So I don't worry about Tom not having guys to throw to during that 4 week lull. I have no fear that he won't be up to date in what other teams are doing. Unfortunately there WILL be a short time where Brady will need to break off the rust and get back in synch with his receivers and OL. The week of practice will take care of most of it, but I wouldn't expect Tom to be 100% for the first week or two.

It would not surprise me to see ****dell change the way the suspension is where Brady can not practice at all with any former nfl players or even touch a football. I know a lot of us know that ****dell will create #Suspensiongate. Watch, I am saying two weeks into the suspension is when we will hear something that Brady "violated" the suspension. It is coming, I know it. ****dell is predictable!

If JimmyG goes on a winning streak Good-hell will either (a) whimper and shut up in disbelief, or (b) blame Brady and accuse him of suiting up in Garapollo's jersey. Which do you expect?

C! Pin something on the Patriots and take their 2017 first round pick. Suspend BB for a year and suspend Brady for a year.

Brady can workout with his sons. If Goodell/NFL confront him on it, he can simply say they were playing catch.

That sounds great, but Brady better make sure he gets express, written consent from the league to watch the all 22 game film on the NFLN. If he doesn't, Goodell will use that as an excuse to have Brady thrown in jail, because article 46.

If the Pats are 4-0 week five and Brady is too rusty, I guess it's possible that Jimmy G. stays in for weeks 5 and 6 while Brady practices.

Would make for crappy television though.

Why not just practice with Goodell?

We know he'll be watching anyway, bring him out of the shadows.

Maybe Tom can throw him a few "Peyton" balls and a defender can administer a different kind of industrial justice.

You see, THAT's the thing. I don't know how good Jimmy Garapolo is going to be. Maybe someday he'll even be a HOFer. But what people are forgetting, is that Jimmy Garapolo starting the first 4 games of his career, is NOT going to be as good as, even a less than 100% Tom Brady. It is simply not possible.

Clearly people here have completely forgotten that Tom Brady wasn't an "overnight success". He might NOW be the greatest of all time, but when he was first starting out he made his share of mistakes that were only limited by effort and thousands upon thousands of practice and game time reps.

So while I'm confident that JG will do a decent job to start the season, he is NOT going to be better than Tom Brady at this point of their respective careers. So all the media hype that is going to happen, especially if he does a good job, will be just THAT, media hype. Remember these are the guys who would rather "create" the story than report on one.

I assume you are saying this tongue in cheek. Article 46 can do a lot of absurd things, but it cannot keep a private citizen from using a publicly available service.

Goodell can do whatever he wants, that's the precent the court apparently set. The agreed upon punishments in the CBA are apparently meaningless.

Brady is an NFL employee.
Do you seriously think that Goodell can't do just about anything he wants to? That is not illegal.
Most NY judges agree that he can, despite the laws of physics.
Pretty much anything is possible with the 31 and the NYJFL front office.

I am also in the camp that Tom better be ultra careful during his suspension. Ideally a certified letter from the NFL* with specific do's and don't's posted on the Internet might prevent them from levying further suspensions for "pushing the rules too far". Then again, Goodell can do anything he wants. I'm still shocked that BB hasn't been suspended lately. Very dangerous situation overall.

Well ...

Plenty of players have been suspended in the past (some of them even deserved it). So there exist protocols for what suspended players can and can't do. If Goodell applies different standards to TB then even the Second Circuit Court of Appeal will take notice.

How can you say this when the stated established policy for equipment violation was a $25,000 fine?
When teams videoed warming balls during an NFL game simply got a desist order?
Look what the Pats & Kraft received.

The protocols for what players can and can't do. Josh Gordon suspended 4 games can work out with his team. Brady can't. The NFL can find loopholes, exceptions and simply make **** up like they've done before with the Patriots. I'm shocked that fans do not see this pattern of egregious front office behavior.

A lot of absurd things including depriving an American citizen of his labor rights. If all labor-specific precedent is thrown out because of Article 46, what is stopping Goodell from doing what you think is ridiculous? Serious question.

serious answer: I think by now "most" people understand that Brady DIDN'T do anything to be suspended. The appeals court ruling was based on labor law, NOT guilt or innocence. Sure there will be a distinct minority of haters that will continue their whining and lies, but they are mostly out there to antagonize and irritate Pats fans.

So in the short run Goodell and his NYJFL buddies got their pound of flesh, but I truly believe that in the long run (even without the eventual defamation suit I daily pray for), Goodell has been damaged, despite what Greg Bedard might think.

Therefore, I believe that the kind of absurd persecution that you are talking about isn't going to happen. It would come across to the general public as overkill and oppressive. So for his own best interest, unless Brady does something like walk into the facilities, nothing more is going to happen. Many guys have been suspended in the past and have talked to their teammates or watched games on TV, or worked out with other athletes and nothing has ever been said. How can he do something ridiculous now without seeming petty and small, or rather MORE petty and small.

Besides if he moves to persecute Brady even further, he will DEFINITELY trigger that defamation case that he needs to avoid at all costs. So "could" Goodell do what you think? Yeah, he could, but he won't. At least in my opinion

When I read a post such as this and all the possible scenarios that could happen to #12, I once again realize how idiotic and absurd this whole equipment issue has become..

Josh "One Toke Over the Line" Gordon can work out with his team .. “He wants to give Josh another opportunity,” Rosenhaus told PFT. “He liked Josh and wants to help him and he deserves another chance.”

WTF is wrong with this NFL Universe???

A premier face of the NFL who has done mucho to promote the league cannot even communicate with his team, but Roger wants to give poor Josh a chance.. the world has gone to the dogs.

NEW NFL RULE: NO WORKING OUT DURING SUSPENSIONS!!! IF YOU PLAY THE QB POSITION.

Signed, Roger Goodell and all his ****-eating minions.

(And the courts have already agreed to uphold it, since it was scribbled on a ****tail bar napkin, which was next to a dead hooker, who was laying next to Roger Goodell, but Article 46 also prohibits him being persecuted for breaking the law.)

Patfanken, I think we're both on the same page of the public's opinion, Goodell's intentions and what he most likely will not do. My original point was not related at all to Tom's guilt or innocence (everybody with a brain knows he's innocent). My point was that actual labor law was violated and the court did not give a **** because Article 46. Goodell could essentially do whatever the hell he wants, punish somebody for whatever supposed violation and there's not a thing the court can do about it because Article 46.

If the appeals court was ruling on labor law, they apparently need to go back to law school considering they threw out all legal arguments because...well Article 46:

1. Law of the shop was not followed
2. Right to cross-examine witness was restricted
3. Conjuring up new grounds of supposed infractions during the appeal and ruling on those instead of the original punishment is not the procedures of an aribtrator
4. Withholding access to key interview notes
5. Overall clear arbitrator bias

I'm sure there are more, but those are off the top of my head. Point being, Goodell literally violated a handful of labor rights and it didn't matter. What makes anyone think that he wouldn't be able to make up another bs violation and punish Brady?
