Ravens

I agree with that. You look at the Ravens without the stigma of them beating the Pats in the playoffs in recent years and you see the worst team in the playoffs and a team that backed into the playoffs. I think even Carolina are better than them right now. I mean in week 16, the Ravens controlled their own destiny on getting into the playoffs and they got blown out by the Texans who were led by a QB who was a street free agent out of football the week before.

Lets take it easy on the Carolina is better. While it MAY be the case...Carolina just plain sucks...the Ravens do as well..i think just a tad less suck however

Man, I thought the Steelers boards were bad! You ladies bicker like a bunch of pre-pubescent school girls! ;-) Listen, you all need to relax a little. First of all, these Ravens are NOT the same scary monster they were a few years back. When things are really clicking on Defense for them, their pass rush CAN be ferocious, but we've only seen that sleeping dragon awaken a few times this year. Their secondary is one of the worst in the NFL. I mean REALLY bad. The front 7 are still tough to run against, but beyond that there's really not a whole lot to fear. The offense is very average and extremely hot/cold. Forsett has been decent, but the reality is that he wasn't "special" anywhere he was before, and he's still not "special" wearing purple. The WR tandem is old (Steve) and a one-trick-pony (Torrey). They've barely even thrown to their TE since old man Owen took over. From where I'm sitting at least, I think the Ravens should be the team you're LEAST afraid of. Their secondary isn't good enough to keep Brady from piling on points, and their offense simply isn't suited for a shoot-out. They can't keep pace with the high-octane offenses in the league. They might be able to get to Brady early, but there are few other QBs in the game that are better at adjusting and getting the ball out faster when needed than your beloved Tommy Terrific.

HOPEFULLY, my Steelers will erase all of your concerns by whipping that ass Saturday night. The likelihood of Bell sitting out worries me a bit, but honestly, if we play well in all other facets of the game, I think we're good enough to beat them without him. The only caveat is that it's a Divisional game, and you know how those can be, especially between two teams with a heated rivalry like Baltimore and Pittsburgh. (Jets anyone?) So who knows? Anything can happen. I expect a very blitz-heavy defensive game plan from the Ravens if Bell can't go. They won't be afraid of our backup options, they know they can't cover our WRs, so they'll try to disrupt the pocket and force Ben to make mistakes.

That being said, if I were a Pats fan, I'd be more concerned with the possibility of meeting the Steelers in the a Championship game. I would have never even imagined a scenario that had the Steelers advancing to the AFC Championship Game a few weeks ago, but it sure seems as if this team has turned a corner down the home stretch. Our Secondary has actuually looked improved with Ike and Troy on the sideline, the pass rush has been getting there more consistently, they're creating some turnovers, and the O-line has really come into their own, becoming one of the better units in the league. Combine that with the offensive weaponry we have in Ben, Bell, Brown, Bryant, and Heath Miller, and this is a team that is capable of making some noise in the postseason if they can stay hot.

If I had to bet my life on a game between our teams, I'm sure I'd still take the Pats to win at home. But, outside of Denver, who hasn't looked like juggernauts on offense lately, I think the Steelers are probably the only AFC team that could potentially match the Pats point for point in a shootout. I hope we get to find out. But one game at a time. Enjoy your BYE week fellas. And good luck! Cheers!
I don't see us getting in any shootouts from here on out. We have the horses to shut down you guys, Denver (pre winter manning), Colts, Cincinnati, etc.

Barring injuries, our offense will be the question. I struggle to see a scenario (outside of Brady pulling a Peyton and tossing up a pick 6 or two) where we cough up 25+ points. Obviously, anything can happen. This defense has been on a role.

That said, appreciate the post. I think many of us simply worry about Baltimore's front seven a nd our offensive line(which has been banged up and struggling of late). I don't see us losing to them, but if there was one team that would make me nervous next Saturday, that would be the team. Cinci and Indy would get stomped the hell out of the Atlantic time zone.

I wish your Steelers well, until they come to Foxboro. Happy New year.

I'm also wishing PitsDirt well, as in beating the Murderer-Worshippers then the Donkeys, so that
we can then beat them in Foxborough, as usual, in the AFCC.

I agree that Cincy and Indy are probably the biggest pretenders from the AFC. Those offenses just aren't very good right now. I'd like to say that the Steelers would give you guys a run for your money if we get the opportunity to meet. But, that depends largely on which Steelers team shows up in Foxboro. The Steelers have suffered from a bit of schizophrenia this season. Show up big one week, only to lay an egg the next (although those games tend to come against bad teams, where the Steelers seem to have the tendency to look past them. Definition of trap games, and unfortunately we fall into those traps more often than not.) When the Pittsburgh offense is clicking on all cylinders, I really don't think you DO have the horses to stop them. A healthy Bell could turn your D-line inside out, and while you certainly boast some elite talent in the secondary, Antonio Brown is the best WR in the NFL right now in my opinion. His route running is next-level, as he always seems to find a way to get open. By never giving up on his routes, he plays perfectly into Ben's strength, which is extending plays. Your corners may be able to LIMIT him, but no defense has been able to take him out of the game yet. The Pats secondary, admittedly, would probably be his biggest test he's faced this season. While I have little faith that our defense could stop Tom Brady and Co. when they're on their game, I do know that our offense is capale of putting up points in bunches. The Steelers have one of the more balanced offensive attacks in the NFL right now.

I honestly feel less confident with the Ratbirds coming to town than going into Denver next week, should we advance, as crazy as that sounds. Certainly the Broncos are scary in their own right, but having to play a Divisional opponent 3 times is always a tall task, especially given the rivalry and familiarity between the two teams. These games always have that feel that they could go either way, and they tend to be slobber-knockers, where whoever emerges might be pretty banged up. Take out at least the THREAT of Le'Veon Bell out of the backfield (potentially), and I absolutely see Baltimore using their strength at defensive front to pin their ears back and come after Ben all day long (which would also be their best bet against your Pats, if you guys meet in Foxboro next week). If Bell can't go, I have a feeling we'll need to see some stellar O-line play and whoever they use in the backfield to replace Bell had better be ready to pick up some blitzes.

Eeesh could be reality
