He is an aging player who relies solely on quickness, which is often the first thing to go. On top of that, he has a growing history of getting the yips at the worst times. Maybe someone will pay him like a top line receiver, but, gladly, it won't be the Pats.

Well, they are not a source at all, they just relay news items from the actual source, which they always mention and usually even hyperlink. Thus they are as credible as the actual source happens to be.

We do know he wasn't signed by another team today. There hasn't been even as much as a rumor on twitter on what teams may be pursuing him. There's been zero buzz. Not even Schefter has had anything to say.

So it is pretty safe to conclude that he isn't in demand as much as he thought he might be.

The longer this drags out, the more certain it is that he'll return.

Welker had a lot of interest during the tampering period. Teams are waiting to see how things break. Again, it's just like the Moss situation was in '08.

The only indication we'll ever have of what the Patriots "final offer" was is whatever new contract he signs.

I'll be OK with Welker leaving if the money is clearly more than the Patriots should have been willing to pay. But if it's something the Pats could have afforded. . . . :enranged:

Maybe, it was because they were only here for a season. Can anyone think of other examples without going back to the 2001 class of free agents? People talk like the Patriots strike gold every year bargain shopping.

As my poor memory attests, I was a Patriots fan for a long time before they won it in 01, so I'm fully aware that they can't win a Super Bowl every year.

It's a very weird situation for WW, the Pats and other teams.

I believe teams want to see the Pats make and offer and then outbid them. They already know (I assume) the 2y/$16m was rejected by WW.

On the other hand, the Pats want to see what teams are offering WW, get a better sense of the market and make a decision if they can get him lower than what they believe he is worth to them.

Its clear that the Patriots don't value Wes Welker all that highly anymore; if they were truly worried about losing him, they would have gotten something done by now.

Perhaps they believe that Amendola/Edelman is better than just Welker, after all, both players are more physical than Welker at this point in their career and would command less money because they are less proven.

I hope that Welker returns, but if he doesn't i'm sure the Patriots have a backup plan.

This shows you don't know what you are talking about. Welker was making things happen with significantly lesser QBs in Miami. Claiming that his success is solely the result of being on the Patriots is about as ignorant a statement as there can be.

Do yourself a favor and get a clue. Wes hasn't said ANYTHING to the media. It's all been "sources". Most of which are "anti-Patriots" (Breer, Rapoport,Borges). They don't need actual FACTS. They regurgitate someone else's reports, but change key things to make it sound like they have something no one else has. This was show yesterday with Rapoport essentially copying Karen Guregian's 2 hour old tweet.

Admittedly, the ignore list is well stocked. I approach draft day with no small amount of dread, since that's the day I zero the list out and start over. Still, I'm confident that the comment I quoted is in the top tier of utter ridiculousness for this year, and I've got to think that it could compete with the very worst. It's not at "trade Brady" level, but no post is, really.
