Which backup OL make the initial 53-man roster (sorry, no room for RLKAG)

Sow is an enigma, strong athletic guy that fits the perfect OG profile, but he disappeared last year. Was he injured and it was not disclosed?
Fascinating to watch Sidy Sow. With a new start at LG he could make waves.

Thanks for correcting me on the dearly departed Jake Andrews. I may do the same with Sow, who started out last season with an ankle injury. But he ended it as a healthy scratch.

Something behind the scenes was going on. This is a starting calibre player. But at LG.

Which makes Strange trade bait.

Valerian Lowe, or as Captain Stone calls him VD Lowe, is the quiet guy who, despite his mediocre athleticism, may scrap and claw his way to being the backup LT. I wouldn’t bet against him.

I don't agree on everything, but I do agree that Strange is probably gone after this year, because someone else will pay him.

But Strange is a hustle and violent player that Vrabel will like. I am not sure Sow is a violent player. I think Robinson is violent but he can not move laterally.

It will be fun to watch unfold and I hope injuries are limited this year.

Lowe is a very below average starter at LT, but an adequate backup.

BTW, who would beat him out to be our backup LT?

Wallace is being penciled in to be backup RT for a year. He really didn't show enough to beat out Jacobs last year.

Schweitzer is Vrabel's guy because he is a veteran brought in by VRABEL help transition the OL inti the future.
So every fringe roster player that was bright in for competition is guaranteed a job?
Do you actually understand how a 90 man roster works?
Are we keeping all the UDFAs because they are now “Vrabel guys”?

Lowe can't play. Any warm body would be a better backup.

The Lowe and Sow cultists, I'll never understand.

Yes Lowe stinks. But who else are you keeping on the roster as backup LT? Perhaps Bryant? Like you I agree that no experience is better than experience at sucking.

Sow a little different story to me. He wasn’t as bad in 23 as the OL play we saw last year but he couldn’t bypass any of the scrubs we kept throwing out there. There is a possibility the coaching staff just didn’t evaluate properly. Sow didn’t suck last year, he sat the bench behind guys who don’t belong in the league.

No. Layden Robinson is a better smasher in the gap-run game. Dude is a RG only. Moving him to LG was a failed experiment.

Pretty much the same could be said of Sow at RG.

WTH. Let facts speak, please.

On paper Sow should be given a shot at LT.
Did you even read the profile that you linked?

Pass block rating 59%. Run block rating 63%.

After a freshman stint at LT he played nearly all his college snaps at left guard. I see no evidence he should get a sniff at the LT job.

The eye test tells me he's not suited. I'm also doubtful he can even win the starting LG job.

There is no difference between a LG and RG. They have the exact same responsibilities and need the exact same skill set.

The previous regime definitely operated like there was a difference. I don’t think that will be the case under Vrabel.

Campbell
Wilson
Bradbury
Onwenu
Moses

this regime doesn’t seem to think highly of Cole Strange. maybe possible he isn’t here but I think we are thin enough depth to keep him.

With Cole Strange's option not being picked up, he's now playing for his next contract. hopefully that will get reflected in his on-field performances.
Taking Campbell makes even more sense now. The Strange pick has been a disaster from day 1.

Lots of so called experts think that Campbell will eventually be moved to LG.

I doubt Wilson, with one year of starting experience at center, beats out The Sow at LG. Preemptive starter has to be Strange 69, tho.

And One Menu showed up overweight and out of shape the last two TCs. Gonna be under the spotlight. What’s the new regime going to do if he can’t help himself?

This is the most interesting year I can remember with respect to roster building of the offensive line. So many question marks as to who will stick. What is your prediction as to how the line shakes out?

The 5 locks IMO:

LT Campbell
LG ???
C Bradbury, Wilson (C/G)
RG Onwenu
RT Moses

Camp competition:

Strange G/C
- his back up center versatility helps even if not the starter at LG. Might be a pennies on the dollar trade candidate. Might be better in a zone run scheme.
Brown OC - cut barring injury
Robinson G - has a chance to earn the LG1 spot or first LG/RG off the bench.
T Robinson G - cut
Sow G - has a chance as LG1 given the McD gap run scheme.
Schwitzer G - I think he's cut
Wallace T/G - Can he be a serviceable swing tackle? If so, Lowe is expendable.
Lowe LT - wish he had RT versatility. Could be a trade piece for a team with injury at LT?
Bryant G - practice squad
Jacobs T - cut
Conley G - practice squad
LT Campbell
LG Strange
C Bradbury
RG Owenu
RT Moses

Wilson should be the primary backup at all 3 IOL spots. We would need to keep another IOL abs then a few in the practice squad. To me IOL is in stone with the exception of the IOL5 becoming available with a vet FA we like.

My guess also. He got the most exp at LG and if you have a rookie on his side, I think the need is magnified
That’s exactly how coaches think. It’s only a matter of time that the bigger rookie displaces the undersized free agent center who is below average.
