Which backup OL make the initial 53-man roster (sorry, no room for RLKAG)

Why not cut them both. They both suck.
The difference is that we have seen Sow for a while.

For Robinson that was judged to be a good pick last year (B+ by CBS Sports as I recall). He came in as a RG only and a raw prospect at LG.

Coaching was terrible and he was asked to do much more than he was capable of doing. Having him start at LG was just plain silly. He wasn't close to ready.

SO, I expect him to be given chance to start over, being the backup RG and learning more about pass-blocking and the LT position.
==========
I do expect us to keep Schweitzer who will easily beat out Sow. Schweitzer is an average backup with experience starting at LG. RG and C.

If that's the case, would Robinson have a better shot than Sow?
Better is the operative word.

IMO, it is all on Sow to show that he is more valuable than Robinson, or more valuable to the team than Strange or more valuable than Schweitzer.

I could see beating out any one of them and I could also see him beat out none of them.

I could also see him getting only 3rd team reps and not given much chance to prove himself.

Yeah I don't understand why most seem to think Schweitzer is a cut. It's possible of course, but unlikely. He is proven to be a decent
back up level player who can play multiple spots. Very few people on our online have shown even that much.

I am not saying Schweitzer will be odd man out. he is a nice option for IOL depth.
but he was signed before Wilson was drafted, and if Wilson proves he can play OC and OG, Schweitzer is vulnerable.
Schweitzer is 31 years old, and if moved his cap hit is $150k.
does his experience and versatility out weigh the upside of Robinson or Sow? not only this year, but what about next? surely, if Strange is here this year, more than likely he will not be next year. Onwenu will be here this year, but what about next?
with poor coaching and inadequate scheme, both Robinson and Sow did put up some good (and bad) film. what can they be with good coaching and scheme?
I would lean towards keeping the young upside.

I think you are pretty spot on with your OL group with the exception being your comment on Lowe.
I understood his better position is RT

I'm pretty certain he's a LT only. I'd be fine with him as a swing tackle if he can play on the right side.

I give most of the line last year a little bit of a break given the poor coaching and scheme fit.

It's going to be a very interesting camp.

If Sow shows that he can start at LG, I would then trade Strange. However, I don't expect that to happen.

I see them as similar players. I think Sow may be a little more stout in the run game in a gap scheme.

I'm not that high on Sow. I think he lacks the athleticism to be an everyday starter. He should be a solid backup option though.

Honestly the addition of Wilson to backup/compete with Bradbury for C means that Strange can now compete for LG. If he can't win the job this year, then you can throw him on the scrap heap of failed BB draft picks, he's cooked.

unfortunately, due to injury and poor coaching/scheme, I believe it still remains to be seen what the upside for Sow, Robinson and Wallace can be. all 3 have put up good play on film. also some bad play. all 3 have been asked to move around the OL rather than focus and settle into 1 spot.
I believe all 3 can play well given the right circumstances, health, scheme, coaching.
watching Vrabel operate, if he did not believe so, they would already be gone

LT Campbell. Lowe
LG Strange, Sow
C Bradbury, Wilson
RG Onwenu, Robinson
RT Moses, Wallace

wild card for me is Wes Schweitzer... Sow could get cut in his favor... if he does get let go, i'd expect Caserio to snap him up right quick

guys like ben brown and that level of player will get let go, and will get signed to the taxi squad...

I think the team drafting Wilson, resigning Brown, does not bode well for Strange.
Robinson/Sow have to lose the OG spot for Strange to play OG, imo.

if WIlson wins the OC spot outright in camp, I then think Bradbury is vulnerable, with Strange and Brown vying for the back up spot

I think the best part of this potential OL group is the competition. It is going to be FIERCE, and bring out the best in everyone. I think between the improvement in talent, coaching and scheme, there is a REAL good chance of coming out of camp with an adequate offensive line. That would be a HUGE improvement over last season's execution. Going from a bottom 3 OL to one that will rate in the mid to late teens would be huge for the offense and Drake Maye.

My hope is that they will identify their top 5 guys quickly so they can get the maximum number of reps together and he don't have the CONSTANT injuries that plagued us last season

i don't look at strange as a center... to me, he is, and most likely, always be a guard...

However, we have yet to see if Strange is capable of playing at a high level anymore... so you might be right, his days in new england might be numbered... the first sign will be the team declining his fifth year option, which i fully expect them to do

I don't understand how Robinson/Sow should be viewed as in the driver seat of any competition. Strange hasn't lived up to his draft status, but he's been "meh". Robinson/Sow have been trash. I do think that they probably would PREFER one of Robinson/Sow beat Strange out simply because of contract status, and I could see a world where, if it was somewhat close, they'd take the hit on the field by trading/cutting Strange just to give the guy with longer contract a look. But make no mistake about who's in the pole position to start until Robinson/Sow prove they aren't terrible. Their fringe roster guys at this point.

To start with:

Campbell LT

Strange LG

Bradbury C

Onwenu RG

Moses RT

Eventually Wilson will replace Bradbury at C

just read that cole stranges option wasn’t picked up. What a debacle the whole thing turned out to be.

That should be of no shock to anyone. He is coming off a serious injury and needs to prove he's recovered enough to perform at at LEAST the same level he was pre-patella tendon tear. This isn't news or tells us anything. Strange will be fighting for his professional life just like the rest of the LG prospects.

(and this might include Owenu as well if he doesn't come to camp in shape)
