Yesterday's thread was unbelievable .It started in the 2nd drive with a call to bench brady for jimmy g. Then a regret of not keeping talib. Then calling out mitchell as the next coming of jerry rice. it just went on and on.

ha ha ha ha....so glad I went to counseling and detox and now stay far away from the game thread...Im a much happier person...LOL

Last year on a cold January day we went into Denver and lost to a noodle armed QB who put up pedestrian numbers but didn't turn the ball over had the support of a better rushing game and a defense that shut down the run and played pass the entire game. Lombardi commented that the Patriots did not want to go in there again so one dimensional that the defense could play pass the entire game.

One year later the Pats go into Denver and Brady puts up numbers remarkably similar to Manning's, but this time he has a running game and a defense that shut down the run and focuses on pass, and the Pats walk away with a double digit victory.

Some folks who gave Manning little credit for last year's game, are now lauding Brady for "good game management," but it is really the same story. While there is always context one can add to the numbers, you can hold a mirror up to those numbers and the central difference between last year and this year was the reversal of the rushing games. Kudos to the OL, Dion, BB, Josh, and especially Scar.

Crazy.

Both QBs and their coaches put the game in the hands of the D and running game. Both QBs did a good job of not screwing it up.

I think you are trying to build narratives and connect unrelated things. The Broncos had to hide Manning who had become their weakness, whereas yesterday we were not hiding anyone but actively attacking the Bronco's weakness which was their run and LB play.

Manning's numbers were an effect of him being deep into his decline whereas Brady's number are a reflection of a gameplan working perfectly well. If they needed to I am sure we could have switched to passing offense and still had enough success to win the game.

Earlier in the year, the Pats game plans were against running QBs. They play to contain them, not put pressure on them..

I do agree that they gameplanned differently earlier in the season, I think it was more the absence of Ninkovich the first four games, getting used to Chandler Jones' absence, Collins dogging it, Sheard and Flowers not playing up to their potential.

It was really a variety of factors, but they're really playing with a lot of energy and aggression lately. We're still lacking a dominant edge rusher, but our linebackers are good enough blitzers and our DEs completely physically dominated the much bigger Broncos OL with a bull rush much of the time. That type of push was absent earlier in the season, partially due to setting rhe edge against dynamic QBs, but they've also picked up their level of play.

I am not speculating about anything. It is fairly obvious what the plan was.

And your point was some strange narrative connecting the play of a guy who couldn't throw the ball anymore with someone who is a candidate to be MVP this year. Just because you see similar numbers doesn't mean that those two things have something even remotely in common.

Problem is your narrative itself has already holes because you are conveniently forgetting that our only TD until that Gronk desperation drive started off from a Manning lateral that was recovered. But for some convenient reason we are counting INTs and not turnovers.

saw on csnne , edelman has been targeted 67 times in the last 5 games . Its a lot considering now that he is a punt returner too. Brady needs to find someone else to spread the ball to to kick start the offense.

I share those same concerns, but I think Edelman will remain a highly targeted player, particularly down the stretch this year. No matter what, and especially without Gronk, Jules is going to be the bread and butter of the offense.

Hopefully, they can continue with the running game, some well timed targets to Hogan and Mitchell, and some semblance of a TE (receiving) option. I believe that 2/3 of those plus a tough defense will be needed for a deep postseason run.

Sure, I could have added that Brady threw no TDs and also had a fumble, but none of that would change the story that is plain for all to see: Brady did not have a great game, and they won any way. That's the "narrative." And it should be celebrated because they could not do that last year. They won this year because they had a running game and a suffocating defense. They are a better team. And that is the reason they will be favored the rest of the way.
