Everyone criticizing the defense: we’ve scored 38+ points in four straight games (never been done in NFL history) despite clearly being nothing special on offense compared to some past teams.

The rules are absurd. The defense is doing okay considering the obstacles they face.

Obviously we won't know before the A22 is out but I am not sure Chung was much in coverage on Burton. In fact I don't think the team really made Burton a priority at all.

And Cohen will make a lot more athletic players look slow. I would not count that against Chung tbh.

It's been something I've noticed each week except when he was injured.

I was surprised the team left Burton so wide open all the time, honestly..

@long distance - You don't think that Reddick (the underused LB from the Cardinals) would be a good addition to this team and force Elandon Roberts to the bench?

No on both. Roberts does his job most of the time. There was a nice replay in the game on him stuffing the run gap like a tank.

Reddick is not what BB asks from his LBs . and still haven't proved he can be productive NFL player in a system that should fit his size, skill set and style much better..

Shades of 2001.

Offense - Defense - Special Teams all stepped up and made plays.

Lets not pretend like BB asks his LBs to all be able to do the same thing because we know he doesn't.

Also, I'm not sure where you get that the system currently in AZ is supposed to fit his Size, Skill set, and style much better because that's contrary to everything I've heard about what AZ is running.

But thank you for your insight.

Let me try to understand what you’re saying here... you think this is a good defense? Yes or no? And why or why not?

I think this is a good complimentary defense.

The reasons why I think they're good for their role on this team with this offense:

1. They need to slow the opposing offenses down pointwise and hopefully yardage wise as well.

- I think to do that they need to be able to generate pressure up front. They are doing that and looking much better than the end of season product from last year.

2. Their communication looks like it's improving week to week and to the point I'm not even concerned about it. I saw a lot of it today.

3. If the ST and Offense do their jobs the defense will have to defend 75 yard drives rather than 25 yards or 3 yards.

- Defending 75 yards gives them more opportunities to force the QB into a mistake, get a 3rd down stop or create a turnover. Short fields suck.

- They may not get a stop on every drive or series of downs but they can get enough to allow the offense to outscore the other team.

4. They have faced the second most explosive offensive team in the league last week and despite having to defend after turnovers, 97 yard kick returns and some stupid squib kicks they were still able to slow KC down just enough. Clean that other shyt up and it would have been a two score win.

They do not need to be the best in the league rather only good enough and if the Offense and ST's clean up their mistakes the defense would look that much better.

This is a myth. There are teams in the league still playing very good defense. The Pats are not one of them which is why that excuse is getting tossed around here. The Queefs fans are doing it on their board as well. The common thread among the fanbases leaning on that myth are that their defenses have just flat out sucked.

The defense had to return to the filed a lot after just stopping the Bears offense. 2 NE turnovers put the Bears in scoring position. Then, Patterson returned a KO for 6.

Lots of penalties kept Chicago drives alive.

TOP is relatively equal but it sure seemed like the defense didnt get a break for stretches at a time.

It’s still the defense’s job to hold those offenses to FGs. We should know that. We saw defenses like that in championship years. This defense has not done that and the Bears’ WRs were often running WIDE open through our zones today. That the team was comfortable playing that much zone suggests the issues aren’t communication. It suggests the issues are personnel-related. This is not a good defense. If they don’t improve, and improve a lot, they’ll be the 2018 team’s downfall when they eventually run into a squad that they can’t hang 28+ on. Luckily, Belichick doesn’t seem happy either.

Wow, I never thought I’d see someone take it this far, but I agree that Fouts is just awful.

It was when he said that Gordon's 4th down catch was his first impressive (I'm paraphrasing here) as a Patriot, I thought "what about the Colts catch?"\

I like Eagle and feel like he is wasted being paired with Fouts...

If the NE run defense drops in ranking its skewed because not every QB can motor like Mitch Tribilski.
