Possible ban on the leaping FG/XP block...

Yes there is. Because instead of running a 2 pt conversion the Patriots would kick the XP and force overtime.

My bad. I guess only if Ghost made that first XP then no OT...

No, if it was 27-10 - then 27-13 - then the Pats would have gone for the XP both times and gone to OT.

Heh. I'm very math challenged today apparently.

No worries. Besides, I would have been dying if we scored with a minute left and needed Ghost to hit an XP to tie - the yips be very cruel.

Yeah. I think if the worst happened, unfortunately the Pats would be looking for a new kicker this offseason.

I love it.
Let the Pats try it, then ban it before other teams can copy it. Even when they didn't originate it, it is just more of the mystique.
You cannot prepare for the Patriots. They don't do what they do. They don't even fake what they do. They pretend to fake.
You cannot prepare for that.
They are in your head.
Love it.

You knew this was coming. The Hurdle rush is the best thing to come along for those of us who think kickers have too much impact on the outcome of games.

I'm convinced McClellan's rush earlier in the game that was mistakenly called a penalty was in the back of the Falcons coaches' minds when they didn't play for a field goal on their last drive. It was not a sure thing in their minds because of that earlier play.

I don't buy the player safety rationale either. What's the worse that can happen? The blocker could stand up and the leaper takes a fall. Hell cheerleaders take worse tumbles in some of their routines.

I smell a whining Raven don't you?

Long snappers each have their techniques. Some lift their head after the snap, others don't. The ones that don't are the ones targeted by the Pats and other teams for this leap block since the risk of unsportsmanlike penalty by clipping them in the heads low.

How about instead of changing the rule, all long snappers learn to lift their head at the snap. I think any perceived problem solves itself then.

Regards,
Chris

The source of most evil in the league. And JH wanted 2 points if his kicker kicked it through the uprights on a kickoff. A reasonably good coach turned into a blithering fool by BB.

They should also remove the ball from the game, with this logic the ball being moved up and down the field create really dangerous conditions where players throwing, catching, and running with the ball are in positions where they could be hurt. Thanks, Harbaby and other whiners.

We are one step closer to Sarcastaball.

What's the complete list of Patriots strategies the league banned? Off-hand:

- Patriots are good on special teams, so change the kickoff rules to make them less important.

- Patriots are good with complex strategies, so change the ineligible receiver rules to simplify defense task.

- Patriots can leap over line in field goals and PAT so ban those

- Patriots had a big, fast tight-end so change the way offensive pass interference is enforced to make it harder for him to play

Any others?
Bill Polian and his Competition Committee tried their best to neuter Patriot defensive backs about ten years ago.

Unfortunately for the Colts, Polian never considered that Belichick would simply update his roster management based on the new rules and 'points of emphasis'.

Rules Changes reportedly proposed by the Competition Committee (aka, The Committee to Disadvantage the New England Patriots) as a result of SB LI:

No more two point conversions in the Fourth Quarter.

"Mercy" rule: a team leading by 25 or more points with less than five minutes to go in the Third Quarter is declared the Winner of the game.

Mandatory retirement for Quarterbacks at the age of 40.

The NFLPA is not engaging in some anti-Patriots conspiracy, and the writer is mistaken to say "the Patriots popularized" that play. He obviously never heard of Kam Chancellor

Maybe I'm wrong but the Pats were the first ones to do it successfully in 2015, right? Against, Indy.

I could be wrong.

Kam did it versus the Panthers in the 2015 playoffs (2014 season) and I think he did it before then as well.

I don't know about making the play completely illegal, but maybe a harsher penalty for touching the lineman. Like a 15 yard unsportsmanlike (isn't it 5 now ?)... It would basically mean a first down for the offense in every situation, or would make an end of game attempt turn into a chip shot.

And, yes, all celebrations should be allowed (excluding taunting, or foreign props/injury risks).

FGs are becoming too automatic. They are taking away anything to block the kick up the middle and getting there from the outside is virtually impossible unless the snap or hold is messed up.
